  • I watched the full length video and read the original story on this not the TMZ version. They were cut short by 20 minutes so Usher could have a longer set.

Good for Billie Joe for going on the rant, he could have just walked off stage with the rest of the group leaving their fans to be mad at them for playing a very short list. He went on a tirade and let the fans know it wasn't them taking money for a short set ripping off their fans it was the festival .

Phoney baloney actions to try and retain any "punk" cred.

Based on my own feelings I think this was an attempt to get some publicity for their new album which is conveniently coming out this Tuesday. Youtube and tmz are the new piblicity machines for many artists who can't rely on the strength of their music.

Agreed, any real band would have kept playing until they cut the sound. I guess he forgets what it was like to be in a real band.

If you know anything about music actually green day is very talented. I don't like all their stuff. I give him props just for making the Bieber comment though
  • What I think is low class is he kept saying "I have one minute". You are in a band fucker, it's not just you. Hopefully he gets help in rehab and that is the cause of this and not the fact that he's a selfish prick.

It was a poor decision on the festival's part though.

Yeah, right. Everyone knows there's no "I" in "band" or "group" or "ensemble", even.

  • Isn't one minute enough to play a couple of their songs?

Anyway, don't panic people....it won't effect this real-punk-rocker-rebel's spot on 'The Voice'.

  • hmmm. i'm just not sure what to think about all this. on one hand i think it might have just been a publicity stunt and on the other i think he was kinda being a crybaby. i am a really big green day fan. it was kinda weird that billie cut basket case short saying, (and i'm paraphrasing) "fuck this i wanna play something new." lol. i can't imagine eddie vedder doing that and then bitching about how you can't cut him off cause he's been around since 1980whatever. ugh. really? i'm billie joe and i've been around since 1988. i sold a million fucking records. boo hoo. all i have to do in life is play these songs for hundreds and thousands of my fans for a living. boo hoo. maybe its because i'm a struggling musician and maybe i just don't understand all the pressures. but fuck...really? he may not be justin bieber but he sure does look like lindsey lohan jumping into treatment after a bad public display. anyway. i am not hating on green day. i love that band and always will. i just hope he gets the treatment he needs to get well again.

    sincerely,
glad EV is always respectful of the fans and not a big crybaby.

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong is headed to treatment for substance abuse.

Sunday’s announcement by the band’s rep comes after the 40-year-old frontman had a meltdown onstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on Friday. As Green Day was wrapping up its performance during the all-star, two-day concert, Armstrong profanely complained that the band’s time was being cut short.

“One minute left, one minute (expletive) left. You’re gonna give me (expletive) one minute? ... I’m not (expletive) Justin Bieber, you (expletives)!” he yelled (although Bieber was not part of the night’s festivities).

Armstrong smashed his guitar before leaving the stage.

In a statement to The Associated Press, Green Day apologized “to those they offended at the iHeartRadio Festival” and said its set was not cut short by Clear Channel, the host of the two-day festival.

The Grammy winning band also is canceling some of its promotional appearances. It is due to release the album Uno on Tuesday, the follow-up to 21st Century Breakdown, released three years ago. Uno is the first in a trilogy of albums; the second is to be out in November, and the last in January. The band is due to kick off a nationwide tour Nov. 26 in Seattle.

Armstrong was hospitalized in early September in Bologna, Italy, for an undisclosed ailment, but recovered well enough to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 6. Since then, the band has made a series of performances, including a “Good Morning America” performance and a New York City concert for the launch of Nokia Music on Sept. 15. No interviews of the band were allowed that evening, but the band chatted with fans and Nokia and AT&T executives before performing for about two hours.

It’s unclear what Armstrong is receiving treatment for; in 2003, he was arrested for DUI, and has acknowledged in the past taking various drugs but has said he now eschews them.

Green Day is one of rock’s top acts and had huge success with its 2004 politically charged album “American Idiot,” which went on to become a Broadway musical. Armstrong performed for a stretch in the musical.

Most recently, he was a mentor on the NBC talent competition “The Voice

So making fun of someone infront of thousands of people for flashing you with small breast is respectful?

So ranting at the first rows for being zombies is respectful?

So cutting your show short and acting like a crybaby cause you got a taste of your own medicine is respectful?

Those are incidents in the past 12 years. I'm sure a few other times ed has gone off on his own fans. No lead singer or bands are saints

As for BJA, I hope he gets the help he needs. I guess the pressure of being a rockstar is getting to him. I hate to blame him, but he sorta caused it by making the band into something bigger than they actually are. They deserve everything their hearts desire, but do it so you don't get burnt out and have these rants.

I presume you're talking about Eddie/Pearl Jam here.

Out of interest. What show is this referring to?

  • I was a pretty big Green Day fan in my younger days (their first five albums are pretty damned good), and I feel like having their set cut short really is a slap in the face for them. Not only did they have to trim their setlist, but they had to haul their crew, equipment, set-up and themselves to the show for what, twenty-five minutes. Hardly worth the travel and carbon footprint. They typically play upwards of 2.5 hours. Obviously they signed on for a smaller set at this show, but to have it further reduced is real shitty. I do understand that it comes with the territory, but that doesn't make it right.

Of course it could just be a huge publicity stunt, seeing as how ¡Uno! was just released. Not to ridicule his addiction, but if there's a relapse in time for ¡Dos! and a full recovery coincides with ¡Tres!, I'll become mighty suspicious.

After their last album I thought maybe me and Green Day were parting ways. But I got to say the few songs I've heard so far from UNO I really like. Gonna pick up the album tomorrow.

Yeah, it is a solid album. Picked it up this morning. A few old school style songs, but also a lot of pop-punk songs. Fun album though! Enjoy
