When Did Ed Serve As a Security Guard at a Petroleum Co.?
...forgive me, "supervisor" to security guards at this petroleum co.
:?:
Just curious - maybe I phrased it wrong last time because people got upset about me asking the question - why - I'm not sure. I know Ed was a gas attendant- Wikipedia says he was one during Temple of the Dog (1990) here:
Temple of the Dog
Main article: Temple of the Dog
After leaving Bad Radio, Vedder was without a band, and for the rest of 1990 he worked part-time as a night attendant at a local gas station.[16]
This is from Time magazine in 1993.
But, did he serve as a security supervisor at a petroleum company? And when was this? From his Obama speech - I keep reading this :
Vedder went on to recall signing up for a government security guard training program, which led to a midnight shift and position as security supervisor at a petroleum company.

Thanks. I'm just curious why there's a slight discrepancy and hoping to clear it up. I know it doesn't really matter.

I too thought the same thing when I read that.

But, maybe back in the day Ed thought it would look bad if he said he worked security (who would be afraid of a short guy I'll never know) so changed his story back then to say he was a gas station attendant?0 -
Ed is like a grand father. He's crazy, and might not remember the truth, but his stories are still fun to hear.2008 - MSG 6/24-6/25

I like both of your answers. They seem honest and possibly true.

He did say 1984.
But didnt he work at a gas station in Chicago down the block from Chris Chelios?
I think he did both.2008 - MSG 6/24-6/25

Discrepancy?? What discrepancy? There is no discrepancy. Believe it or not, just because something isn't found in Wikipedia doesn't mean it never happened - and most people have several different jobs/fields, especially when they are young. I'm sure there are plenty of things people don't know about Ed. He doesn't owe the world a comprehensive index of everything he's ever done just to be considered a credible historian for his own life. I can't believe you truly don't understand why questioning Ed's credibility regarding his own life wouldn't be taken well. Of course, I also don't understand how a reasonably intelligent person could see a discrepancy with someone having more than one job in the past.
Regardless, he's talked about his security job before. I can't remember exactly where I read it, but I know I already knew this about him before his recent comment.0 -

While I'll admit that he keeps going on and on about this, and maybe he should just let it go, when I first heard about what Eddie said I said to my wife 'When did that happen? I thought he only worked as a gas station attendant'
When this band has been as private as they've been, and we only hear bits and pieces of their lives, don't you think people will be confused when they hear something about any of the band members past that hasn't been told before??
With your comment, and in his other thread that was locked, several people have said 'Oh Ed a security guard?? Yeah, he talks about that all the time' But it is never backed up by evidence of him saying it. So either people are misremembering what Ed said, or no one can remember the time or place it happened.0 -

I also think Ed talked about the security job in the PJ20 movie. Now lets move on. Who cares what year he worked what?0 -

I just can't believe that partisan politics can stretch so far as to have someone questioning the validity of the work history of a rock star. I think that's got to be some kind of record on the "I hate anything said by anyone associated with the other side" scale. We all know Ed wouldn't have been accused of dishonesty (and, yes, that's what happened here) if his story wasn't told in support of Obama. Seriously. Some people need to get a grip. :roll:0

Thank you
You're welcome. I know it's been said elsewhere as well, but that's the first source I could think of that I had at my fingertips. (I love iPads.

He said he took this program at 19. I didn't't think I had even heard what he did that long ago, only what was going on in the year or so before Seattle, but it seems it is mentioned n PJ Twenty, so there you go! I completely trusted what Ed had to say about his own life in the first place, but I am glad someone remembered the quote from the book so that people can stop suggesting that Ed was lying about his work history or his use of a government program. Ed does not strike me as a liar or a bullshitter. Glad we got that cleared up.
PS - PJ Twenty is such an excellent book!!! I don't love the design and layout, but the content is fucking fantastic.

Jesus man, can't you let this one go? You already had a thread locked on this same subject. You don't need to know every detail about Ed. You're a bit creepy if you are so seriously in need of the answer! :?Like a book among the many on a shelf...
