Question for the masterminds regarding quality and correct me if I am wrong!

Got my DVD Deluxe which I haven't opened yet, would love to get Blu Ray but I have a question, as far as I understand all the footage was not filmed in HD, is that affect the resolution on the BluRay??? Is there an actual difference between the DVD and BluRay in terms of Image Definition??? Anyone here had the chance to watch both formats???

I am hoping for a real answer and yeah you can make fun of me too, thanks 8-)

Alot of the movie is in HD (as the movie went to theatres, there's probably even better than HD copies). Alot of the older footage is from videotape so it doesn't make a big difference. There's lots of interview footage and footage from the '06 tour which was filmed in hd.

I think the one that caught my mind was the show from the Moore Theatre. They were showing footage from that show in HD (somewhat grainy, but definitely hd, it must of been recorded on film). I'd love to have that whole show put out on bluray.

I'll sum it up. There's a decent amount of footage that sourced from film or hd footage. It'll look better on bluray.

Also, don't forget the superior audio that comes with bluray.

I'm no expert on these things but:
If it was recorded on film it will look amazing on bluray. A whole new experience.
If it was recorded on video it'll be upconverted but still can't come close to film. PJ20 is half and half.

I've heard of some transfer issues on the bonus discs but the main feature is a very good as far as "film" quality. Really nice looking on bluray.

Don't forget the other main advantage of bluray---audio quality. Much better.
  • No such thing as a dumb question...

Some of what you are asking about depends on the quality of your home theater components. Speaking for myself, there is a significant difference in audio quality between blu ray and DVD. I have a higher end blu rat player and a 7.1 speaker set-up, so there is a huge difference between Dts-hd and 5.1 digital sound. Def a difference in pic quality between 1080i and full hd. The audio and pic quality will differ depending on the quality of components used for viewing.
If you can go blu, do it.
    Run for it, Marty.
