I wouldn't mind living off the grid. The other day we watched Les Stroud- Survivorman- he had special on about living off the grid. It was interesting seeing the process he went through and the decisions he made.
But I would want to live near the grid- just in case you need some municipal help.
this is what is kinda sad about it all ... we have all these environmental problems that have solutions ... solutions that have been around for a loooong time ... yet - we continue to choose to have our way of life dictated by the greedy ...
greedy ?.....you mean free interprize the power and oil companys have been raping the public forever, even these earthships are a product of the companies that we are victim of, the glass bottles, old tires, aluminim can's but.....someone has taken their waste and made an off the grid home out of them and that is awesome !

Godfather.
we haven't paid the true cost of energy and many resources since forever ... if you goto my science and technology thread you will see that my first post there is a home that is a net-zero home ... meaning it produces as much energy as it consumes ... the house is not some fancy earthship out in the desert but a regular suburban home like any other ... we could cut our overall energy consumption (waste) by a huge margin just simply by insulating homes ...
