Obama Tampa Fundraiser to Include Eddie Vedder, $20,000 Price Tag

Tickets are $20,000 and include a performance by Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder.
By D'Ann White

Democrats with $20,000 to spare are invited to get up close and personal with President Barack Obama when he comes to Tampa Thursday, Sept 20.

The Hillsborough County Democratic Party is hosting an evening reception with the president at the Tampa home of Lisa DeBartolo and husband Donn Miggs, with a special performance by Eddie Vedder, lead singer of Pearl Jam. The exact address will be given out when guests RSVP.

DeBartolo is the executive vice president of DeBartolo Holdings LLC and the daughter of Edward DeBartolo Jr., the former owner of the San Francisco 49ers.

This Thursday's fundraiser isn't cheap. According to the Hillsborough County Democratic Party, tickets are $20,000. This is expected be Obama's last major fundraiser before the end of this financial reporting cycle so organizers are hoping for a big turnout.

According to a blog on Tampabay.com, chef Tyler Florence will be cooking the food and the event is expected to be less than 50 people

    So, what's new?

Now, let me see if I can go buy Riot Act at Target - I really want to hear Green Disease.

No, but seriously - hope he plays Grievance for Obama.

    Good post.

I'll say this - it would be pretty cool if he went up there and did Bushleager with ...

    both Romney and Obama masks.

    Then...

    ,... at that point...

he'd gain back a bit of respect from me.

But, that won't happen. He's become as much of a corporate whore as the people he use to sing about. I think he said this would happen long ago to a classic melody - "and with them, I become one".

Heck, if I had to suffer through it during the Bush years, why shouldn't the guy who still has the troops overseas have to listen to it. :?

this is one of the reasons I don't think rock-n-roll bands should mix with politics of any sort, fan's expectations get shit on, if your angry about the orical deal brother there is nobody to be angry at except yourself (sorry to sound so rude) any band in the business is in for the money and that's the bottom line, lots of bands endorse politions and I'm sure they believe in their hearts that the polition they endorse is a good one but in my opinion they do so at a risk because politics is a ugly business and a band is lending their good name to a polition or even a company in good faith and there they open them selfs up to the politions or companys good fortune....or misfortune.

Excellent taste there! Roy's voice was just...beauty. Sweet, honest beauty.

Anyway, Ed playing this gig (something that perhaps only the very - and evil?! - wealthy could afford) seems odd to me, but he's always walked his own road, so...have at it, man!

To be honest, I didn't read much about Oracle.

And I'm not saying he or the band or anyone for that matter shouldn't speak out on issues or take part in activities in which they believe. It's just tough for me to hear one thing and then see another - I have trouble with the disparity of "do as I say, not as I do" (in terms of my own reconciling of it; I'm neither asking for nor needing any kind of justification from those who make those choices. In the end, I'm [selfishly] in it for the music). That said, lyrics mean a lot to me...that is, my interpretation of them probably moreso than the intent.

I hope all that makes sense. Just wolfed down a spicy tuna roll and I'm waaay wasabi'd up ;)

$20,000 a pop, godfather. 20 grand a seat for the obama fundraiser. who the fuck goes to these events? not one swingin dick i know could or would attend such a disaster. in fact, if i were holding 10 billion dollars this is the very last event i would attend. for 20 grand i could shoe many shoeless kids. for 20 thousand bucks i could build a school in africa. i bet 20 grand could drill wells for villages that need clean water.

pay obama 20 grand, eat chicken or steak, listen to a few speaches & listen to ed go to town.... fascinating and all but to me 20 thousand dollars could be well used elsewhere

what I mean is ....just what I said "enjoy the music" and don't let politics change your taste in music or bands you listen to....$20k ohhhh fuck noooooo. I wouldn't pay $20k to see Buddy Holly come back from the dead and sing Oh Boy ! ..... welll yeah I might to see Buddy Holly

I've been told that my language wasn't appropriate, so I apologize for that language. But, for your point - it's fine to endorse a politician. I don't think it should matter but I do think band's should get over themselves because their opinion is no better than any other citizens. In fact, on average I'd think the average citizen is probably more educated than an average rock band member - that's an opinion though. Maybe they should just not mix politics with rock. But, truth be told, I have no problem with any of it - I think it's good actually... speaking out on war, on your politics, etc. I think that's admirable even if I don't agree with it.

Where I draw the line, however is when one doesn't back it up with actions/viewpoints with their lifestyle but preach it to others for years on end. When they hit the point where they deem it ok to do things that (many, many fans) that their former self may have been against. That, there, that's not cool in my mind. But, to each his or her own.
