Jeff's Multi-Colour Hamer 8 String Bass

This bass has always interested me as we don't see it much. It's this one below, looks identical to the Hamer 12 string he uses quite frequently for Jeremy and Why go etc, except Jeff painted this one himself (has an 8 on it).

It's always interested me as a bass player myself, because the Ten linear notes state Jeff uses Hamer 12 and 8 string basses. We know Jeremy and Why Go are clearly the 12 string but it can sometime be hard to tell betwen an 8 and 12 string bass when it's in the mix. I suspected Deep was recorded with the 8 string but live performances from that time would suggest its the 12 also. I'd love to know it it was used on any of Ten's tracks.

Vs clearly also uses the 12 and possibly the 8 string bass on some of the songs too. Go, Leash I believe are the slightly more thunderous 12 string. I suspect the 8 string is used on rearviewmirror as the bass sounds like it has multiple octaves in there too but not so much as the likes of Leash.

It's an interesting bass guitar i think! Jeff, bring it back to the live shows!

    Pretty sure that's the one he smashed a long time ago. He's also got a sweet one with the (now) classic NBA logos.

    no the one he smashed was a different painted 4 string of some kind. although maybe he smashed this as well.. but i doubt it. Quite rare

    So today... I went out and bought an 8 string bass!

    It's a Hagstrom, similar to what John Paul Jones used on Achilles Last Stand and Nobody's Fault But Mine, and also the one used and Jimi Hendrix's Spanish Castle Magic.

    It's awesome, been playing why go and Jeremy on it already, it has that sound!
