Where should we be?
Obviously, the big question at the moment—and for the next two months—is “Are you better off now than you were four years ago?
Let’s take January 2009 as our starting point, for obvious reasons.
We all know that we were in the middle of a recession in which our economy lost roughly 8.5 million jobs.
In January of 2009, our economy lost roughly 750,000 jobs.
We were mired in two wars (at least two that we know of).
The housing market collapsed.
Income inequality was growing.
Our standing around the world was continually in freefall.
Congress, to be polite, has been as dysfunctional as it could be.
With those very basic points in mind, where should we be now? How would we have gotten there?
When answering these questions, I ask two things of you:
1. Be realistic
2. Be apolitical

Every person is worse off than many others and better off than many others.....everyday. No matter what happens. It's all in the way you look at your situation.
The question is weak. The only people who would say that their lives have not improved, somehow, in the past 4 years, are hardcore pessimists who will never be happy with anything. They will find fault in their lives, in politics and in the economy because they are looking for it. Historically, there never has been at time when everything was good for everyone...in spite of the way people romanticize the good old days! Things have not been all bad either.
