What's your favorite western movie?
I saw a few on TV this weekend and thought of your broad this category is and there are so many classics, so I was curious to see what everyone liked.

The 2 I saw on TV were Tombstone and Unforgiven, really loved both of them.

  • I've never seen most of the old classics that I always hear people talking about, but a newer favorite of mine was True Grit. And Unforgiven was awesome of course.
Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)

Anything Clint... but my fav's by far are the Trinity movies.. They call me Trinity, Trinity is still my name, and a couple more can't remember.

Those movies are really old but funny as hell. Definite recommend if you like westerns.

  • The Outlaw Josey Wales

close runner up is Unforgiven, the last 30 minutes are some of the best stuff ever!

I think half of my top 10 would be Clint. 'Squint with Clint' is one of my favorite TV marathons when they play a bunch of his movies back to back.

unless Back to the Future III counts, then that.
  • Somehow also Kill Bill 2 comes to my mind
  • The Frisco Kid is one of my all time favourites in the Westerngenre, I also liked Unforgiven and Goin' South.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is my favourite. I like the other two as well.
Unforgiven, Tombstone, Wyatt Earp, Young Guns..there's lots of good and/or entertaining westerns.

Yeah, all those classic ones, especially with John Wayne. Stagecoach. But the recent True Grit was much better than the first.

Unforgiven is top notch. Watched it again recently. Also liked Open Range. The Long Riders is a really good one about the James-Younger gang. It features brothers (Carradine, Keach, Quaid) playing brothers.

Don't know if it counts as a Western but I really like Bad Day at Black Rock.

"Looks like we're shy one horse."
    "You brought two too many."

I saw this for the first time about 35 years ago on late night TV. I tuned in on the middle of it and watched till the end. A few months later I did exactly the same thing. It was a long time before I got to watch it from the beginning. Then I read something about it that said "This movie makes more sense if you watch the second half first."
