Look The Other Way

we started out as well as can be
feet in the sand and hearts in the sea
the trees gave us shade and a reason to free

you and I, we met in the sand
the water was calm, we were on dry land
then the tide rolled out and I lost your hand

I can close my eyes or I can look the other way
I can write it off, hope for better days
how many times can I go without a say?
I show the other cheek and you slap it just the same

now you're gone and I'm all alone
now you're gone and I've been shown
now you're gone cause I've outgrown
