I love having an excuse to go to Manhattan, so thanks PJ for a great one!
Even though I used to live there and get up every year or so, I'm always looking for new things to do, places to eat, etc.
Please share your favorites from this week while the memories are fresh.
Thanks....
Here's mine:
Did the Top of the Rock (GE Building) - Had great weather Wednesday and got amazing pictures.
Roundtrip on the Staten Island Ferry - Best free thing to do in NYC. We even had an armed Coast Guard escort.
Went to see Passing Strange on Broadway - Great rock musical.

Once the band started playing people started rolling in downstairs - it was like a giant party in someone's basement. Different musicians on and off the stage playing everything under the sun, and I do mean everything. A variety of covers in addition to a few of their own, and the originals were great. My wife and I agreed it was like the musical equivalent of Second City. If you've ever been to Second City you can imagine what I'm talking about - several outstanding comedians on and off the stage never missing a beat. I'm not quite sure how they rehearsed but believe me when I say they were so seamless it was as if they had all been playing together for a decade or longer. Each performer had an amazing voice and I mean fucking amazing. People were dancing in front of the stage, in front of the bar and at their seats - it was completely off the hook.
Do yourself a favor and check it out next time your in NYC on a Wed or Thurs night:

Peace
Free? I didn't know that thing was free, I would have done it. I was right there in Battery Park. The best thing I got to see in the park was a bunch of colored dudes dancing about for money. Next time I'm taking the free tour.
It was a pretty cool way to see the Statue of Liberty and cruise the harbor for an hour.
Plus, you can jump off on Staten Island, use the CLEAN restroom if you need to, grab a drink and hop back on the same boat to go back. Anyone who spends time in NYC knows the value of a good public bathroom.
Oh, did I mention they sell a wide variety of ice cold brew on the boat? And at half of the Garden price.

yup... did that on Wednesday morning as well! excellent weather, fabulous views. better than queuing up for ages to get to the top of the crowded Empire State Building (which we did Tuesday evening ) AND you get a great view of the ESB as well...
same thing for us when we did that on Tuesday morning, the coast guard 'escorted' us pretty much all the way over to Staten Island... do they do that for every trip...?
went to a great bar on Thursday, the Ginger Man (11 East 36th St (between 5th and Madison) which has something like 66 draught beers and another 120 or so bottles!
put on a slow, dumb show for you
and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
god I'm very, very frightening
and I'll overdo it'
Took the ferry over from Weehawken- Picked up my 10C tickets...section 63, Mike's side
- Opted out of the 500-person poster line
- Met up with my ticket buddy
- Bought cheap beer in Penn Station (32 oz draft for $4.50) and sandwiches, and had a picnic on the 7th Avenue side of the Garden
- Went to Famous Footwear and bought a pair of flip-flops for the show since my work shoes were killing me
- Headed inside at about 7:15
- Found our seats, then found the bar and stayed there during Ted Leo chatting with different people
- Enjoyed the show
- Just missed the 11:37 NJ Transit train home; had to kill an hour til the next one
- Went to some crappy bar on 8th Avenue and had another beer
- Got home in one piece
- Realized the next morning my $400 camera was missing
Despite the camera situation, STILL had a great time. Hoping for EV tix at NJPAC!!!

I'll come back and do it proper.
Were you the guy who spent the week in NYC and did Coney Island?
You had quite a list of things to do, if I recall right.
I'd love to hear how it went.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me...
Ate 3 slices of NYC style pizza (a name that is redundant because this IS the only kind of pizza)
Met some really cool fans
Waited in a 2 hour poster line for night 2
Ate a great breakfast burrito, apparently in the "best diner in the city"
Oh, and one more small thing: got engaged and bought an engagement ring (which lead to free drinks from the hotel bartender)
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"

but that night 13 hours in the airport till 5am, i was taking care of this old lady who lived in jersey. her family were there and worried, couldn't stay all night there, they had a flight to catch, i told them i would take care of her. the hugs & kisses i got. sweet! i got her email & gave her a few pearl jam dvds to check out.
was in nyc tuesday around 10am. walked around the streets close to msg, attended the 2 wishlist foundation preparties; attended the 2 pearl jam msg show's. first time on the nyc subway on my own. went to radio city music hall, went to the top of the rock at 30 rockefeller plaza, stroll around nbc studios, took a break at central park, kept walking around nyc. it was fun. 3 hour's of sleep in 3 day's. those vitamin water bottles were amazing i'll tell ya. i'm hooked on them.
meet so many friends from the boards at the preparties, it was awesome. had a great time in nyc. wished i stayed more then the 3 day's there. next time.

But I was also in the city for Saturday June 21st to see The Cure, so I can include that, put my daughter on the greyhound for home after driving to the city from Philly after seeing the 2 Camden show, then shopping errands for my other daughter who was going to be in some performances, then saw The Cure at Radio City.
2 trips to nyc in 4 days! Time to go again! I love the city.

Now on Wednesday, my sister headed back to CT in the morning, so I was by myself:(, not for long!!! After I checkout of the hotel, since I didn't have anything to do and I didn't want to go anywhere by myself (I was so bored and since it wasn't my first time in the city,I have been there so many times before, I didn't feel the need to go check out any attraction), I grabbed something to eat and stayed by the MSG on the Borders side. Then I met Stephen Flow (which by the looks was also bored like me) and we started chatting about the show, and so on... We headed to the Pre-party, where I also met I Brisk I, had a drink talked some more and we (Stephen Flow and I, I Brisk I came along) decided to go get a poster, which ended with no luck. Went to the show after hours waiting, had great seats (Thanks) and headed back to CT afterwords!!!
I had a great time, met a bunch of people, and can't wait to do it again!!!
GOOD TIMES WITH FIJI WATER.
