Wow, just saw a clip on youtube of Jay Z and PJ and to my shock noticed Jeff using one of the new Fender Bassman heads... I just bought this head a few months back and ever since have fallen in love. I didn't know a bass head could be sound fricking good, I'm totally in love with it and now Jeff is using it too, awesome! I really do have great taste lol.

Would love to see a clear picture to see his setting in comparison to mine. Anyone have one from a recent show?

Nice one Jeff! How awesome is this Amp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Man, I was so shocked web I saw the MIA footage to see jeff using it. Mainly because I've bought one a few months back and it's been my dream amp for years, when fender announced it year or so back I put my order in and got it about two months ago. It's seriously amazing!!

I can't even begin to say how awesome this amp is (I sound like a fender rep lol, but I don't even use fender basses), but it is classic vintage all round, but with awesome modern benefits that really help of you are a bass player that plays a lot and wants to use all-valve heads! If you are a bass player I highly recommend it!! I cuddle mine after every gig!!

I was so shocked and excited to see jeff using it! Now I love it even more!
I wanted this amp because I'm a huge Paul McCartney fan and it's basically a better made version of what he use to use in the 70 era!

    I'm rambling

  • I guess I wouldn't agree tonally that it is in line with black face era Bassmans. But the new Bassmans are descent amps, good tone, and the important thing tube compression. I found that was the most improved item tonally when switching from solid state to tube bass amps about 7 years ago.

Interesting that Jeff was playing one. He has been changing it up a lot the last few years with bass heads...

  • Fender have released two versions the huge 300 watt Superbassman that jeff uses. (green day also has one) and a slightly smaller light versio, the Bassman 100T. Both essentially the same thing apart from the superbassman being more suited to stadium bands. Although the biggest different is the the Superbassman uses 4 x 6550 power tubes where as the bassman 100T uses 4 x 6L6 power tubes, as this makes a slight difference tonewise. All the old bassmans you refer to used 6L6 power tubes do I think the 100T is a bit more classic sounding.

  • Oh I know what they use, and the two different models. Both are nice, don't get me wrong. They are in line with Peaveys VB series. Descent compression. Ok growl in the clean channel. Both Brands overdrive channels are useless in my opinion, to fizzy. I'd just use a pedal on the clean channel.

Again I think the new Bassman series is nice. Reliable for live gigs. Shoot I use a Peavey VB2 live thru either a 6x10 Ampeg cabinet, or a late 90s 4x10 Ampeg cabinet that's loaded with Weber 10 FH speakers.

I just don't think its in line with vintage bassman.

But in the end I'm just glad to see the push for production of tube bass amps again...
