This collaboration was awesome, IMO. However, regardless of how you feel, you can't help but respect PJs ability to step into the hip hop realm. Not that they are the first rock band to do so. Other than Stone, I've never heard any of them being into hip hop.

Go all the way back to the Judgment Night movie soundtrack for the song "The Real Thing." The band backs Cypress Hill.

Good call Spags. Ice Cube was also on the 1992 Lollapalooza tour if I recall.

Also keep in mind going back to Mookie Blaylock days the band (mostly Jeff and Eddie) have very much been into basketball and basketball and hip-hop/rap has a long history together. Eddie is a huge Bulls fan and of course Jeff and the Sonics (Shawn Kemp!!)

PJ also played the Tibet Freedom Concert a few times which was run by the Beastie Boys and I know when AD Rock from the Beastie Boys passed away Jeff posted his thoughts on the Ten Club site. Either way cool to see PJ step out and try something new. But I don't expect a "mash-up" album in the future like Jay-Z and Linkin Park did but you never know :)

" I don't really know Ministry that well, but I'm looking forward to checking out Ice Cube, who blows me away. My God, his album is incredible. It's such honest music, with awesome grooves -- those old Parliament samples are incredible. That, and Soundgarden, of course. It's always awesome to see them play night after night. The Peppers are an amazing band, and they were really cool to us when we toured together; they went out of their way to take care of us. Eddie incited riots a couple of times, and we were going to be forced to pay for the damage, but the Peppers took care of it. We really love playing with them", Mike McCready.

"I think the Lollapalooza lineup is great. Ice Cube is probably the most exciting for me, too, just because I'm such a huge fan. Right now, he makes the greatest rap records around. I'm really interested in seeing how his show comes across live. Other than that, any time you have the Chili Peppers and Soundgarden together, it's going to be cool. Ministry could be interesting; I've never seen them live, but I've heard great things about them. I hear the singer is a totally "out there" dude. I have no idea whatsoever what Lush and the Jesus and Mary Chain are like. My impression is that they're a little more low-key than the rest of us", Stone Gossard.

    • Thanks for the corrections on PJs interest in hip hop. My OP wasn't meant to highlight their interest in that genre, but more to pay respect because thy rocked a hip hop track in front of thousands of people. So cool to see their musical abilities cross genres

BTW, saying that because u like hoops you automatically like rap is a reach IMP. I played D1 hoops and rap is definitely not my first choice.

I agree. this song was amazing! It really was the perfect way to end a great show. I didn't expect it at all!
