why does this guy even stand the chance at parole? no matter how unlikely, is it really beneficial to society to even give guys like this the chance to get out. Saying nothing of the death penalty...is the chance at parole justice for this monster?

that’s right! Can’t we all just get together and focus on our real enemies: monogamous gays and stem cells… - Ned Flanders

right, and I am 99% sure it will play out that way...but why leave the 1%? and why is it after so little as 10 years?
I guess it works for Norwaythat’s right! Can’t we all just get together and focus on our real enemies: monogamous gays and stem cells… - Ned Flanders

Norway needs to launch this guy into the pit of a volcano with a trebuchet.
As a society, every country should have a shark tank ready for people like this. The court session would be one week, then the shrinks get him for 6 months, then we have Dick Cheaney go to work on the homes here with a pair of pliers and a blow torch for a month or two, and then into the shark tank he goes while Obama sits in the background petting a Persian cat.

I don't understand either. There should be no chance of him getting out at all. I don't know their legal system, but it would be nice if they could just sentence him and be done with it.
And I support Jason P's plan, although I'd feel bad for the sharks having to feed on that slime. I can fully picture Obama with the Persian cat

norway's laws and sentances are different from ours. we are looking at it from an american perspective. if we look at it from a european or scandinavian one we might feel differently.
this is a victory for the shooter though. the fact that he was declared sane is what he really wanted because in his mind it justifies what he did. to him, insanity would have diminished his "work"..."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."0 -
When I saw this on the news earlier, I was flummoxed.
21 years? That's it?
That's not even four months for every life taken, not to mention the others forever changed.
Norway law or not, I'd be pissed off and insulted if I were one of those shot or related to the victims.0 -

Hadn't thought of that. Good point. In his mind this probably makes him see himself as more of a "hero" than ever-- which of course is just plain crazy."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
yeah I was puzzled but then sae that 21 years is the maximum sentence in norway... he wont ever be out in normal life though.I'm just flying around the other side of the world to say I love you
Sha la la la i'm in love with a jersey girl

Maybe because it works for them, better than the American revenge system works for some of us. Their society is a lot safer to live in than ours, they must be getting something right. How many mass shootings have they had? How much of their population is locked up? What percentage re-offend? Their penal system works for their society. Ours is plainly dysfunctional. It's pointless to attack the legal system in Norway because of American beliefs. The US legal system is a cest pool, putting children in prison and executing the mentally handicapped and innocent. As ridiculous as this seems to some, the Scandinavians have a completely different POV than we do. They also have a much higher quality of life, personal freedom and lower crime rate.
We have state sanctioned killings. This is as alien to them as their moderate sentencing is to some of you.0 -

That's all he wanted.
21years is their maximum term though this can be extended indefinitely by 5 year increments. He will be having these 'extensions' when the time comes.
That is how Norwegian society works and I understand that it may seem odd to some other western cultures. The victims and families of the victims are satisfied with this judgement.0
