I'd like to drop every dark, heavy, thought into a black hole
and each plastic jewel, artificial flower or piece of pyrite I ever had
I'd love to practice hope by cutting off all the tangled and burnt hair
(how I'd love to be born completely fresh again
without any harsh wear and tear)
without heart scars or tar in my lungs
there must be a procedure to do that!
maybe a new ceremony?
I don't like feeling cynical, subdued or defensive by experience

we change lightbulbs when they burn out
we change shirts, socks, underwear and contact lenses daily
what about scrubbing the dirt off our hearts?
surely, we ought to find a way to refresh them too?
dust it off, soak it in a tub, rub off the dry skin
open the doors and windows
turn on the lights!

I've been studying the gift of learning
(as I like to do)
I've been thinking about constant growth
(as I often do)
so, I think I'd like to peel a bowl of oranges tonight
and make some juice for my morning
my own ritual to represent removing a protective skin
to get to the sweet drink inside
