The following link has 30 "game changing" innovations.

http://www.businessinsider.com/30-game-changing-innovations-2012-8

I came across the list while researching the Biolite Camp Stove. It's a wood burning camp stove that eliminates 95% of smoke and carbon dioxide and can also power USB devices with the stored energy ... all supplied by sticks and small pieces of wood.

I then found out the company decided to produce a bigger model and send it to 3rd world countries where there is a lack of energy and 1.5 million people die each year from smoke while cooking. It's a pretty cool thing to do.

These are amazing! Some even sound like pipe dreams - which makes them more incredible.

And you know, it strikes me as...well, as pretty fucked up and upside-down...that THESE people - whose innovation and perseverance and resourcefulness - are virtually unknown, yet folks such as the Kardashian clan are celebrated...for what again?

Anyway, thank you for this. Nice little mood-boost :)

I know what you mean, GF. The idea of harnessing the sun is so, so tantalizing. Seems like such an obvious answer to the world's energy issues, especially our dependence on oil. At this stage of human progress, you have to believe that we're only a few years away from finding a sufficiently efficient (lol) manner of doing it.

As solar panels advance, wouldn't it be nice if those large roofed businesses, such as Costco and Home Depot in places like San Diego ran their daytime operations off solar panels on sunny days? They can take less power from the Edison grid and run lights, registers, air conditioning, computers, etc... from solar panels. They would switch on to the Edison grid as the sunlight waned to run their evening an overnight operations.
This way, the demand on the power grid during daytime peak hours would be reduced. Of course, on the days when it rains or is too cloudy, they would have to connect tot the grid, but at least there would be some conservation going on.
In other words, it does not have to be 100% of one or the other... just a suplemental system to aleviate the demand on the power consumption.

Cosmo and MotoDC I would like to see soloar energy used by the avarage working people and stop the extorision commited by power companys, maybe in the future who knows ? but it would be a huge legal battle by the power companies to keep control of their empires.

    # 29 is interesting, as long as it's voluntary. I could see court ordered shots to drug addicts in the future.

I missed that one. A shot to end addiction. Yeah, that could be HUGE.

Just think of how many lives and relationships could be saved. Homelessness would drastically plummet. Crime would go down.

with addiction its not only the physical which I think the shot would address? Its also a mental thing. A way of thinking of the addict/alcoholic that drives the addiction.

Yeah, I guess you have a point. It's not like chewing your nails gets you high. Maybe not a direct correlation to heroin, but I see what you mean.

now using this shot as a means to get a person over the intial physical cravings , coupled with the effective therapy ( I use 12 step program) I could see its potential. By itself though, that could set up a vicious cycle with repeated relapses.
