I just saw the schedual for Made in America on their app, Chris Cornell is to go on the main stage at 5:45 then Drake at 7:15 and Pearl Jam closing it at 9:00.

This got me thinking, I've seen CC solo and I am having a hard time picturing it in a outdoor festival setting. Usually it's a quiet sit down experience, how will it translate in a loud mobile environment? Why is Drake in-between CC & PJ?

Then it dawned on me!

Maybe the Chris Cornell set will be a surprise Soundgarden set!? They got an hour time slot, at least one new song to play and a huge audience with minds to blow! It makes more sence for SG to hype the crowd than just CC. Matt is already there, all they need is Kim and Ben! I know all the "Matt Cameron's arms will fall off" comments but that could explain the 2hr "Drake Break" in between CC's time slot and PJ. If there was ever a time and place where SG & PJ can be on the same bill this is it!

What benefit would the festival gain by not just announcing a Soundgarden set?

  • Maybe they are taking it one step at a time? You know how these things are with contracts and commitments, no one wants to get ahead of themselves. Cornell just got added late in the game, that's a foot in the door and once he has a time slot he can pretty much do with it as he pleases and it seem's like Nudedragons style to keep things mysterious and in the dark at least until the last minute.

I'm betting that's a check that Cornell wants to cash.

Cornell makes perfect sense. Nice chill vibe right around sundown sounds good to me. If you said Cornell was closing the show, then I might have some suspicions but there's pretty much no chance otherwise imo.
  • Cornell played solo at the Hang Out fest.
  • I agree it's unlikely but still in the realm of possible, not saying Cornell hasn't done solo at festivals I just think it loses some of it's ambiance. Plus the buzz from a surprise SG set at a high profile event would be good promotion for the new album coming out in Nov.

Nonetheless I'm putting good money on TOTD.

They could just ditch that bullshit Drake asshole and do soundgarden. Drake... what a joke. It blows my mind how people my age look up to his lyrics. this asshole writes about shit any 18 yr old could think of, while his producers write his generic shitty beats. so "inspriring"
