Today would've been Joe Strummer's 60th birthday! He was taken far too soon.
I think he is a musical marvel. All of his stuff is wonderful from his early stuff with the garage R and B and the 101ers then with the ground break punch in the mouth like attitude from the Clash. Even his solo work is a treasure chest full of gems! Check it out.
I may have been the only person in the crowd at PJ20 who went nuts when they kicked into Arms Aloft!!!! I know no one around me was a super stoked as I was. But I did see some Strummer shirts the next day. I wore mine for sure. I love that Pearl Jam paid homage to Strummer by playing a rarely heard track of his. I mean, one could argue without Joe Strummer, they may not have been a Pearl Jam......just sayin......
Due yourself a favor and look into his stuff pass the Clash. It doesn't sound like the Clash, but its great.
So to quote the Hold Steady: "Here's a toast to St. Joe Strummer!!!"

My life was forever changed once I listened to London Calling.
I have a cool concert poster from a Clash gig in Hamburg 1980. It is signed Mick and Joe. Not much hope of getting it signed by Paul or Topper, so it is finally time to get it framed!
