Prayers and good vibes needed.. AGAIN

My family just got the most fucked up phone call
that anyone in my Dad's position could possibly
Get!!! I am so fucking pissed off right that I can barely
type this...
The insurance company just called to inform my Dad who is
sofar surviving Pancreatic Cancer, to inform him that
they are no longer covering his feeding formulas under
this fucked up new Obama care law. WHY?!?!? Because a
four day feeding( one 24 can case), costs 3200.00, that's why!!
He can eat all day long and still starve!! His Pancreas no longer
produces any of the lipids, enzymes, acids, or proteins
required to digest food. This requires then that he be tube-fed
an elemental formula that is pre-digested so to
speak. They just took his only source of nutrition from
him!!
Please, please send out some heavy duty prayers and
good vibes our way . Anyone whose ever fought with
their insurance company over what they'll cover knows
what a fight we're in for... So pissed off right now, and it
was looking to be such a nice day today too!! Also, pray I don't
kill anyone, cause I really want to right now!!!

I'm so sorry to hear this! It is so frustrating and infuriating. But there is hope. You just have to go through lots of paperwork, phonecalls, talking to people that don't know anything. All of my clients have catastrophic illness and as the healthcare laws and coverages have been changing I am constantly getting letters and phone calls stating things won't be covered, or they need to change doctors because that doctor no longer takes certain insurance. It is a constant headache. I've had numerous clients with Disabling Aids be told they can no longer get care at the clinic they've been going to for over 20 years! It is horrible. The good news is, you can fight it. It seems when they wrote the new healthcare laws they were thinking more about "Joe Public" than those with catastrophic illness. As things have been unrolled major problems have been coming up. I imagine that the social workers wherever it is your father receives treatment might have some ideas or suggestions for working around this. They might do it for you. There are a lot of advocates out there, and I can guarantee this has happened to others. Ask around, get advice, demand advocacy, and don't take no for an answer. There are resources and people that will fight this fight for you, so you can focus on your pop and his recovery. My thoughts are with you and your family. Good luck and stay strong!

Thank you do much for this info. It helps a lot, and
we've begun to set Dr's appt.s for him to establish
proof of his need for the formulas. And thank you
to all for the support and prayers, it means the world
to me to know that I have this kind of support. I have NO
idea what I'd do without the Tenclub.
  • Just an update.. We were denied our first appeal, on to
appeal no. two. BUT. Our church set up a donation fund,
and so far, we've been ableto buys one monthsupply of
the formula. Please continue to keep us in your thoughts
and prayers, you guys are thebest!!

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Having first hand experience, it's crazy what insurance will cover one day and the next day it will be completely different.

Sending you good vibes and plenty of prayers.
