Does the shut down continue if they do reach the playoffs? I'm not sure of the exact details
it's my understanding, when he hits 160 innings, he's done for the year. personally, if the doc's would allow it, i'd skip a few starts now so i could have a couple in the post season....make the WS and i give a rats ass about innings.
Will you ask him if he thinks Strasburg should be shut down?
:nono: :nono:
Nationals are being stupid. they have the best record in baseball and a 4 game lead isn't big enough in the NL East.
gotta think long term....shut him down.
If he feels fine, let him pitch. What are you waiting for? There's no guarantee the Nationals will ever be back in this position. It's not like he's hurting now (that I've heard). You signed the guy to pitch so he can help you win a World Series, so let him pitch.
The only thing dumber than this is I heard (and I could be wrong) that Melky Cabrera would be able to play in the playoffs if the Giants make it because he is suspended 50 games, but there are only 45 games left. So he would play in the playoffs and then be suspended next year for five games.
Baseball is one of my favorite things in life but MLB has some dumbass rules.

It would be one thing if he were just a young pitcher who had never pitched this many innings in a season, but he's coming off major elbow surgery. Personally, I like that the Nats stated what they were going to do with him before the season and aren't going to let pressure from the media and fans alter their plans.

I never knew the innings limited included the playoffs. Are we sure about this? The Nats have a legit shot to win it all.

i'm not 100% sure, but it seems like it would be odd to shut him down at the begining of september only to bring him back in october. seems like i remember reading that once he's done, he's done regardless of what is happening with the team.
hindsight being 20/20, you would think they would have skipped a start here and there during the season or started his season in the middle of may

Nats fans should be pissed if this limit includes the playoffs. Start him once a series and your team is SO much better. Taking out your #1 when there is no injury is insane. I could see if they were the Cubs, and eliminated in April .
As a Braves fan, I like our chances of taking the division much better with Strasburg out of the rotation. That said, the Nats are being smart. We're talking one of the best, if not the best, young arms in the game who's coming off major reconstructive surgery. Everyone expected the Nats to contend this year but I don't think anyone, including their team, expected them to be this good. Their club has a huge future and Strasburg figures to be a big part of it. No need to risk a career to try and squeeze in extra starts. Heck, they're so deep they may still win the division w/o him. Last I heard, he was predicted to pitch into early September. As previously mentioned in the thread, the Nat's management said before the season, regardless of the standings, they'd pull the plug when he got to a certain inning count. They need to stick w/ their original plan and thing long term IMHO. Go Braves !

doubt that happens. he is under team control thru the 2016 season. :fp:
