Just got stung for Import Duty for item from Ten Club

Bought a T-shirt from Ten Club a couple of weeks ago, and I've just had to pay £11 in import duty (UK).
Any ideas why?
I've bought numerous items before (and more expensive than the t-shirt. For example the 10 Legs boxset and the PJ Backpack) and have never had to pay import duty.
I'm wary now of purchasing anything further (for instance the Manchester boots. Was going to buy both together but fear I'll be charged import again).

Post Office said it was because of value of package on the label exceeding value allowed to be imported, so was subject to duty. (I think this explanation was a bit dubious).
I too am now a bit wary of what I will purchase / quantity / value in one package.
Oh well!
Thought it was worth a second warning.
