Todd Akin:Outlaw morning after pill, doesn't know what it is

US Rep. Todd Akin defend outlawing of the morning-after pill, which he thinks causes abortions. (it doesn't, it actually prevents pregnancy and if taken by a pregnant woman, does nothing.)
More proof that letting idiots run for office and deal with stuff like "issues" and "facts." They often have no idea what they're talking about and further confuse and muddle the public's understanding of it.

Outlaw something that prevents pregnancy... something that can potentially save a mother thousands of dollars.
Yet pills that can cause increased chances of cancer, a shorter lifespan, heart disease, etc. are okay.

outlaw something that could prevent unintended pregnancies and the very abortions they are concerned about - sure makes perfect sense

Thats really similar to a debate i saw between tim kaine and george allen.
allen basically doesn't understand how the morning after pill works and comes across as an idiot

He at least sort of understands that the way the law was written would ban not the morning after pill but the birth control pill.
(morning after pill prevents pregnancy. birth control pill essentially won't allow a fertilized egg "stick and grow into a baby" for lack of a more delicate term. So that means that anything that interferes with a fertilized egg would be illegal of "life begins at conception.")0 -
don't let facts get in the way of a good debate ...

this clown akin wants to be my senator....
i can not believe how this guy can repeatedly win elections... it is completely beyond me..
i was wearing a Che shirt at the gym the other day and a big bodybuilder guy wearing an akin t-shirt told me "you should get out of america."
if he wasn't bigger than me, and if i had had my smartass brain fully engaged i would have asked him why he hates women.."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

No, RU-486 has never been called "the morning after pill." Unless by people who don't know what they're talking about.
You only took Rau-486 once you were pregnant. Morning after pill prevents pregnancy.0 -

My memory isn't the greatest. I just seem to remember it being called that, as I said, with the caveat that it wasn't really how the drug worked. It wasn't in widespread use but I was a rape crisis volunteer and I knew it was available for victims of sexual assault.
I wasn't trying to say you're incorrect, just that I remember the term being used. Or at least I think I do. I agree that Akin sounds like an idiot. Does such a thing as a well-informed politician even exist? (rhetorical question)"The stars are all connected to the brain."0 -
I'm sure the two have been confused. But by the same people who think I can give their animal medical attention when I tell them I'm a vegetarian.0

Is that a scientific study of the normative use of "morning after pill"? Hardly. But neither are your multiple statements of derision for anyone who could possibly not be aware of the nuances of post-intercourse family planning options. Such a grumpster.0 -
MotoDC wrote:Yes I know the basic difference between Plan B and RU-486. My point was that the "morning after pill" misconception (no pun intended) was/is likely more common than you're allowing. For example, although I personally am aware of the fact that RU-486 and Plan-B work very differently, if some random used the phrase "morning after pill" in conversation, I would not be willing to assume that they were using the term correctly. I.e., I wouldn't necessarily presume to know whether they intended to mean RU-486 or Plan B based on that statement alone.
