Hey everyone,

In case you haven't noticed, Gremmie.net is going to open the vault on Soundgarden stuff if they get 3,000 likes on facebook, and they only need a few hundred more. I'd LOVE for them to add SG to Gremmie, so how about going to http://www.gremmie.net and click on the Gremmie Soundgarden photo to be taken to the facebook page to like it? Gremmie actually has pretty good FB posts, and not too many of them. THANKS! :)

Why do they need to get Facebook likes before doing this? Just put the stuff up if they have it.

except the article they posted about Binaural. that was harsh!

But yes, I SO want those likes so the SG vault will be opened!

I think to make sure they have enough interest to make it worth their while.

Seems kinda silly. I think they just want likes on their Facebook page. :)

Put it up. If the number of downloads is low and they need the space for something else two months down the road, take it down.

I think it's a matter of their own personal time. I say that because they recently sent out a post on facebook asking people if they listened to Gremmie radio and who would like them to keep it or get rid of it. The reason they were asking is because of the time it was taking them to load all the songs twice. So I assume they are tight on time and only want to do stuff that is valuable to a lot of people. Fair enough... Oh, and I said I did want them to keep Gremmie radio, once I went and checked it out. I hadn't even known it existed! It's not really radio... it's just a way way way better method of listening to all the music on Gremmie. I think they call it radio just because all the music for the section you choose (i.e. Ben Harper's signature live) comes up at once, and plays one after the other, kind of like streaming radio, so you don't have to choose and search for songs on the website and play them one by one, which is tedious.... so maybe if you clicked like, find that post of theirs and tell them you like Gremmie radio! :)

  • it was pretty fucking obvious this was going to happen. I mean, SG can't stop talking about that B side box set that will come out eventually, so did gremmie really think they could post all of that stuff for free? it doesn't matter. I checked the site right when it went up, and all of those b sides have been around forever. it was not worth the time.

you'd think they would have checked the legality of doing it in the first place.

Yeah, I was wondering how long it would last. It was fun to read the shitstorm of comments on Gremmie's facebook earlier post though, you think people on here have entitlement issues!

Probably alot of the same people. What I found amusing was the insults hurled at SG. Seemed like people were more understanding when the topic of Ed shows came up. I side with the artist either way, but protecting studio bsides seems alot more reasonable than keeping people from trading some taped shows.

Tough break but I guess ya can't win them all. Gremmie has the good fortune of hosting some things that No One else is able to. It was a nice idea to try and host Soundgarden (even if that "get to X amount of facebook likes before we post them" thing was lame as hell), but as long as they have their PJ archive, that's all that matters.

Yeah, but am I the only one who finds it REALLY weird that Ed is apparently hard core about copyright on his solo work?? I mean, he's the one who was ALWAYS talking about how that was all bullshit, and encouraging people to burn Pearl Jam CDs so no one even had to buy them... and PJ is still pretty cool about the whole thing. Yet Ed's solo is completely restricted and he won't even allow cameras at his shows, and he gets 10C to send out violation letters to Google and shit for youtube vids. Wtf is up that? Strange contradictions going on there. I don't understand why Ed acts so differently when it comes to his own stuff.

    Vedder Fears Ticket Price Hike

PEARL JAM star EDDIE VEDDER fears he'll have to increase concert ticket prices after years of fighting to keep them low - because fans keep stealing his songs. The rocker was one of the leading voices against high ticket fees - and famously took on Ticketmaster in America - but now he feels downloading is killing music and he'll need to seek profits elsewhere. Vedder says, "A lot of people are getting your music without having to pay, and it's only $12. "I ordered eggs at a little restaurant in Seattle and it was $9.50. I was thinking, 'You can't spend two extra bucks for a record that you put your heart and soul into?' "I think the problem is to charge more for tickets, which is something we've always been abhorrent to do; either that or you're gonna have to start accepting sponsorships, or start selling your music to Viagra. "I'm not sure how we'll do it. I'm glad we gave money away when we did - when it came in from making records. We kind of spread it around and helped people in our community and abroad in different ways."

I see! Well thank you very much! ... Solution Eddie: Push the vinyl format like your livelihood depended on it!!! Vinyl is already making a big come back, but if artists worked to make it even more mainstream, some of this problem would be solved.... and the world would be a better place, too. :)

Well this little blurb really doesn't explain his banning of people taking photos of him at shows or recording and trading his live performances. It sounds like a rant against file sharing of studio material.

Well, live recordings make money too. Plus, if people get unauthorized bootlegs of everything, then they don't necessarily need to purchase studio albums... I guess.

Except Eddie doesn't sell his live recordings. If he did, then I think he'd have a valid argument. In fact if he did, he'd probably make tons of money off of them.

Also there are few people who would choose to download a crappy sounding audience boot and use that as a substitute for the studio tracks.

Water on the Road DVD and Wishlist RSD 7" - retail and not marketed to the fan club only - so it's not a stretch to think he'd want to protect his image/work from unauthorized distribution when he's got 100% say in the matter (vs. 1/5 vote). The point of the posting of that particular blurb from 2007 was more to show Vedder's mindset and where it was heading. Surprised the quotes haven't appeared in the Oracle thread as of yet.

Not YET he doesn't. I fully expect him to start putting out some albums at some point.
I personally wouldn't want crappy audience boots either if there was something better... but I have to assume that a lot of people do, given the stats on music and illegal movie bootlegs. Apparently it's a multi-billion dollar business.
