Travelodge Farringdon

edited June 2007 in Given To Fly (live)
Sure you good souls have given me this information before, but that was months ago, and the helpful search function of the pit is suggesting I just retrieve it through the thousands of pages in the London Crew Thread :)

So... I fly into Gatwick at 12. How do I get to the hotel? Hotel is not listing checkin time. Do you know what it is? Do I even have time to go to the hotel? If not, how do I go from the airport to the arena directly? Or if yes how do I get from the Hotel to Wembley? What time are the folks staying there leaving to go to the arena?

I ask much just because I've been spoiled before ;)

Thanks!
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

no need to thank me though
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Right the problem you have is that its not right close to any tube station, i mean u can walk it easy but its not too close. how i would do it would be to get to central london one of these ways :
    (from gatwick airport webpage)

Travelling to central London from Gatwick Airport
If you are coming to central London via Gatwick airport, you can take the Gatwick Express train or the coach/bus. By train a single costs around £10 and takes 30 minutes to reach Victoria Coach Station.
The airport website provides lots of useful information.
    http://www.gatwick-airport-guide.co.uk .
To get a black cab (taxi) from Gatwick to central London, takes 60-75minutes and costs around £65.

So if you're at victoria station now, find the underground buy ticket (one-day travel card will get you anywhere you need to be, ie to hotel and to gig, and its cheap, cant remember how much, i use oyster but thats too much info for now:) ) jump on the victoria line (not the circle or district because thats a world of pain!) to Kings Cross (make sure you dont go the other way!). At Kings Cross you can either get a taxi because you're very close, or if it was me, i'd jump on the Northern line and travel one stop to Angel station. Get out into the light at Angel and ask for directions, you're about 1/2 mile away maybe a little more. Take you about 30 mins top from Victoria to Angel, thats an absolute maximum so yes i would go check in before the Gig.

You could go to Kings Cross as i said and then get on any of the Circle, Metropolitan or Hammersmith and City lines one stop to Farringdon, turn right out of station, next right up Farringdon Road, and keep walking for about a mile and a bit (passed where i work :) ) and you're there. Phew good luck!!

Oh ye the gig! just ask at the station (any of them) which station you need for Wembley arena becasue i dont know myself. Ask one of the Orks that works the gates, they look scary but fuck do they know their shit about the underground!
Anyway if its Wembley park you need, just go to Farringdon, jump on westbound metropolitan line, wait untill the sexy voice tells you the next stop is the one you want. Should take 20-30 mins tops. Mind the Gap (you'll understand this time in 2 weeks:) ).

Dunk, we've been following your work on the board and you're getting worse by the minute as the show approaches. We can't wait to meet you in person at the pre-show party... :D

So, Meme, we're staying at the Travelodge as well and given that my wife speaks Italian, here you go with the info in your mother tongue. :)

    Ci vediamo allo show!

One of the locals will probably have more detailed info for you, but this is what we have for now...

First of all... specifics, you have the right screenname :D

Thank you so much... they say on the hotel site that King's Cross station is approx 1/4 of a mile from the hotel, so I'll walk :).

    For Pajo's wife:

sono quasi morta l'anno scorso a Milano per stare vicino a Ed, quindi ho in mente di starmene piu' tranquilla dietro questa volta! Vedro' un po' a che ora arrivo esattamente e decidero' se venire direttamente a Wembley o passare dall'albergo. Avro' la mia maglietta BRMC con su scritto "I won't waste it - my love on a nation". Fammi un fischio se mi vedi!

Thank you all (and a kick in the nuts to dunk). I'll print the thread this time so I don't have to pester you anymore :)

    absolutely my pleasure! :)
Still think Angels closer but i may have the hotels mixed up there is 2 or 3 similar in the area, and im never too good with distances haha, i just walk everywhere with my toons on-)

even if it is the one im thinking of its easy walkable from Kings Cross anyways so you got plenty time. Hopefully just enough to not be in front of me:p

Certo! Noi avremo queste magliette http://picasaweb.google.com/pearljam.tour.2006/PJTour2007TShirts - fanno riferimento ad una miscella di spezie croata che si chiama 'vegeta'.
A presto! Iva (si, mi chiamo come la tassa :))

this is how close Farringdon station is to the Hotel here

actually using that map if you just scroll North a wee bit you'll see kings cross/st pancras is right there... it might even be closer :)

Very cute Iva! I'll definitely look for you guys, even though you may be further ahead. I think I'm done aiming for front row... I went back in Milan after a few songs anyway :). So yeah, specifics... no need to worry :)

    ciao Meme,

there's actually a direct train that you can take from Gatwick Airport to Farringdon and King's x, which is closer to your hotel.

here's a link to train times. it's pretty fast:

    http://www.firstcapitalconnect.co.uk/Main.php?iCmsPageId=75

To go to Wembley Arena, Farringdon and Kings X are on the Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines, so it is a straight shot all the way.

Instead if you go from Gatwick to Wembley directly, choose the Gatwick Express to Victoria, and then hop on the tube to make your way to Wembley.

    Hope this helps! :)

PS fai un salto anche al concerto di Mestre?

ETA: it looks like your hotel is closer to Kings X station rather than Angel, and also closer than Farringdon tube and train station.

you can also get from gatwick to London Bridge on National rail. cheaper than gatwick express, and closer to farringdon.
From London Bridge, get on the Northern Lineand change at Morgate. Any of the lines from there go to Farringdon

hey... thats not nice.. which is why i think you're great!!! :):)

The Transport for London websites journey planner http://www.tfl.gov.uk/ says direct train Gatwick airport to Farringdon (the First Connect one mentioned by someone else) takes 45 minutes ... so this is probably your best bet ... they seem to be pretty frequent (every 15 minutes) and they are the Bedford train.
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

FYI, there's no need to change and take the tube, because the train from Gatwick (the First Capital Connect, not the Gatwick Express) will take you straight either to Farringdon or Kings X.
