Didn't record it but I was there. Honestly it felt a bit self indulgent... Playing these long drawn out repetitive songs that no one has ever heard, and throwing in a couple of hits... Or even actual album tracks would have been ok. I'm not extremely familiar with his catalog so I didn't know so many of them were new songs actually! But man, some long, noisy solos.
Still a fun show though. From about cinnamon Girl till the end was pretty awesome. Twisted Love and For the Love of Man were both pretty good songs, more of his strumming mellow stuff than the feedback stomps the other new tunes were. Ontario was also folksy. great to hear Powderfinger again.
Uncle Neil is just one of those guys who does what he wants. I saw some people leave after four songs, and noticed the crowd was ten times more responsive to songs they knew like Cinnamon Girl and Needle/damage. Hey hey was also great and people dug it. Sure he will break out these new songs at future dates, this was just the first night!

I have everything he's ever released and I'm not sure how I feel about this setlist. I'm going to find vids of the new songs before deciding to buy tickets to a show near me. Thanks for your review.

hmmm, I am going to the Red Rocks shows but gave into temptation to see this list. The ticket prices are a lot higher than ALBQ and I don't know if 6 new songs out of 15 will be well received for the money, unless they are pretty mind-blowing. No Hurricane or RITFW?

My friend who saw the ALBQ show said it was like "two hours of rough sex."

    hmmmm.

Yea but I also think that this pretty much solidifies that album as a quick cash grab

cash grab? you think he's making huge bucks selling 80,000 copies of an album of songs he didn't write (publishing is where the dollars are)? He'll make way more on the new album coming in October, or if Reprise issues another greatest hits album. Or probably from two nights of touring

80,000 copies of an album that had almost all its tracks completed in just one take. Also, how is he suppossed to know how many albums he will sell? and I'm not sure he had to pay to use all those songs.

Maybe I'm wrong, but an album release of covers done quickly and without tour support isn't really to my liking. Still loveNeil though, and looking forward to that second 2012 album.

I imagine the copryrights have long since expired on most if not all of the songs on Americana. Still don't know if I'd call it a cash grab.

He may not have had to pay for them, but he won't make money from them like he would if he wrote the songs. He recorded a second album during that month as well, which is due in October. Recording stuff quickly is how he does it. I mean, Mirrorball was basically recorded in 5 days.

I just don't see it being out of character for him. The Live Rust tour, for example, featured usually two songs from his new album at the time (Comes A Time) and about half stuff no one had ever heard before. Its hard to say what he is gonna do from tour to tour. Personally, I am guessing that this mini run of about 5 shows is kind of a warmup for the real tour this fall, where the set will likely change. But who knows.

Either way, NY just grabbed $75 out of my wallet because I bought a ticket to see him in Brooklyn :D:lol:.

Going to see The Who the very next night, and Bob Dylan 2 weeks beforehand. Wow, I spend too much on concert tix!

Last night's show at Red Rocks was identical to ALBQ except one encore song instead of two.
"Over and Over Again" (Is that the title or just the refrain?)

The new stuff sounded great, but there was too much noodling and extended endings. They could have replaced all the filler with Cortez or Hurricane or RITFW or something.

Going again tonight, I hope he varies the set a bit.

I wouldn't expect too much change. Whenever he comes to New York for a two night run, its basically the identical setlist from night 1 to night 2. Maybe this will change since its a pretty special venue?

Beautiful night at Red Rocks but I'm not anticipating a change in the set lists either, so 1 show is good enough for me 8-) . See you some other time at Red Rocks Charles ;) .
So, What you Giving ?........ (Thanks Speedy, Alesek, & Arq+friends)

Personally, I am guessing that this mini run of about 5 shows is kind of a warmup for the real tour this fall, where the set will likely change. But who knows.

He is touring this fall, with Crazy Horse. It's already been announced.

I know. That's why I said "I am guessing that this mini run of about 5 shows is kind of a warmup for the real tour this fall" in my previous post.

I hear ya. I've had to cut my concert spending down quite a bit. Its easy at the moment since I don't live in the States, but once I get back, it will have to be bare essentials. Unfortunately a few of the essentials are touring this fall. Hopefully my wife doesn't kill me. :D
