  • sounds pretty dang good ...

    ... for an economist's band.
    :P

Only thing i noticed was that the drums sound a little wimpy ...
but don't take my word for it, cuz i'm not in the bedroom on my monitors,
i'm on a shit ass pair of ... 2"(?) computer speakers .... lol.

The wav file looks awfully close to clipped the whole way through, but it doesn't look like it actually is. So that is really a non comment. lol.

I'm no genius producer, though. :D

The "mix" sounds good, with respect to instrument levels, etc.
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

Thanks for your comments. Noted. I was worried about the instruments overpowering the vocal, personally. So, it's good to hear feedback.

Yeh, economics and rock music - they blend well.
the vocals stand out quite fine in the mix.
    i wouldn't worry about that.

    Guitars:

A bit loud, maybe 3 dB or so. The stereo image is a bit too wide, I find it distracting. You should be able to imagine both guitars in the same space; I usually don't go any wider than 70% left or right, unless you want it to be unnatural. I feel like the tone is a bit too thick, especially in the low-mids (400 Hz or thereabouts). It kind of makes the main sections feel really droney, especially since the distortion is really compressed, not much dynamic change. This becomes especially obvious in the verse without guitars, where the dynamics come out a bit more; I always err on the side of less distortion when recording to preserve dynamics. The lead/solo tone is very Santana-ish, not bad.

    Drums:

The kick gets lost in the mix. Snare and cymbals sound good. Not much to hear from the toms, but they're good.

    Bass:

Can't really "hear" it, although it's definitely there. Get rid of some low-mids in the guitar, and the bass might breathe a bit better. You can try adding some treble EQ, see if you can pick out a bit more presence. The dynamics and mix with the drums is pretty good, so far as I can tell.

    Vocals:

Level is pretty good, maybe a bit TOO out front in some sections. It's definitely fighting with those guitars for space in the mix, though. The singer reminds me a lot of Ed Kowalczyk from Live. I'd love to hear a bit more effects on his voice, I feel like delay would fit the part. It just seems very dry and up front. I know you just asked about the mix, but I can't resist this one production note: I'd love to hear some background vocals, or harmonies, on some accent words/phrases, or maybe on the chorus. They wouldn't need to be loud, no crazy choir parts or anything, but something to add a bit of depth to the vocal.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.
