Any new albums that you have waited so long for and when its dropped you hated it??

For me

The Shins new album was a massive letdown, played it over and over hoping it would hit home but after a month I gave up... just an awful album

Mark Lanegan Again, just couldnt feel it.... too cold and too much electronic sounds, never thought id dislike a Mark Lanegan album
Behind her eyes there's curtains and they've been closed to hide the flames. Remains.
She knows their futures burning but she can smile just the same. Same.
And though her mood is fine today there's a fear they'll soon be parting ways.

The Shins came to mind when I first read this thread. I would say the last few Bruce albums besides Magic too.

  • oooooooooo Lanegan?

Easily album of the year for me and certainly one of his best in his career. I'll gladly wait another 8 years for another album if it's of this calibre.

I haven't listened to the shins.

I enjoyed The Shins albums, not my fav album from them, but I think there are more songs that I liked than disliked.

Tenacious D, Big Pink, & Scissor Sisters would be my nominees.

    I'll 2nd The D...Just not funny.

The Mars Volta's Noctourniquet has some ok stuff but it hasn't earned too many repeat listens. Got the vinyl the other day and compared to their past releases it just seems cheaper.

Chris Robinson Brotherhood-An alright listen, but I don't think he's playing to his strengths at all. His bro's album slays it, imo. I'd guess the jamming works better in a live situation, but I think about every tune on there needed some serious refinement.

Dr. Dog's Be the Void is one of the best albums I've heard this year, but it doesn't compare to their last 2. Fantastic album but it's hard to not be letdown following Fate or Shame, Shame.

I used to love this band, but honestly I have lost interest after the last two albums.

I really love Octahedron. Thought it was pretty accessible for them. I really dig about every other album from them. Love Deloused, Frances would be better if they got rid of alot of the bs, Amputechture is the absolute balls(that's good), Bedlam was just a bit too intense for me and this new one is leaving me less than satisfied so far. I find all their albums listenable, but with music as intense and unique as theirs I find myself goin to the TMV comfort zone most of the time.

yeah, after the first two or three tracks, that new Shins album sounds like one big, long, boring track. :(

I got that feeling from their 3rd album , I've yet to buy their latest....sounds like it was a good choice from this thread.

Everybody has their own opinions ... I, for one, LOVE this album! And I'm spinning it right now :D It's so soothing and deep, like a hot chocolate on a cold winter day, but still refreshing and sexy like a gingerino on a hot summer day! Being a former electro lover, I love the amalgamation with the electronic sounds. And I think it works perfectly with all the other Lanegan stuff. I regret that I didn't go to see him live this year.

On a sidenote, I hope the announced new albums of PJ and QOTSA won't be a letdown - bring it on!

I got one older Shins album and I just don't see the big deal.

Cranberries - Roses was pretty mediocre. They really mailed it in.

A couple of albums already mentioned, Mark Lanegan I took a few listens to warm to but now adore it and The Mars Volta I loved from the first listen and have gone a little cold on it since, probably their weakest so far but it's still more than ok. The one that disappoints me the most this year is Sigur Ros, Valtari. It's as good a place to start for anyone unfamiliar with them but if you're already a longtime fan then you're going to hear a lot of things you feel like you've already heard. Very formulaic, it's like they have used up their best ideas and are willing to emulate them rather than turn a corner to produce something fresh.

Completely disagree about the new Lanegan album, Blues Funeral, which I find to easily be the album of the year so far. To each their own though.

This is not really recent, but tried to give the most recent SxDx album (from last fall) another spin and I just can't get into it. Aside from Machine Gun Blues, I feel that one was an overproduced let down, especially given the amount of time it took to put out a new one. Still love them though.
