This may sound pretty dumb being that this IS a Pearl Jam board so we have all been brought together here by our actual appreciation for this band and it's members..........I just want to bring our man EDDIE VEDDER to the forefront here and give him some serious thanks. Having a super crappy couple of days at work, sick, kids are sick, car problems.... I just decided to dig my ipod out of my purse and put it on my desk with some lame speakers.....holy cow........INTO THE WILD just put a smile on my face. Took me back to my friends and the music at last weeks LA and SD shows. Wow, the end of those shows...HARD SUN and how happy he was singing that song with Liam and EJ and whatever other special guest was there on any given night! Thanks again Eddie!!!! :D

Good thread :) Not that I think Ed gets too little recognition on here...

that said, one week ago i was in San Diego..by myself. It really was nothing short of a spiritual trip for me, not that I am religious, or Ed obsessed. It was deffinately an eye opening experience for me though.. maybe a bit of a awakening of the spirit.

I've been through A LOT over the last year, way more then I care to get into here. It left me feeling kind of jaded, and more than a little unhappy with my current existance. ITW came out right at the beginning of my recent tailspin. Its been my source of comfort, a friend along the way.

I can think of so many times when a PJ song has been a source of comfort, but this particular album was exactly what I needed, it was a gift. The gift was not lost on me either.

So, off I went from DC to SD, something I never would have considered a year ago. Somehow, through the trip, with the beautiful backdrop of two amazing EV shows, I found myself once again hopeful, happy, and feeling as though I am acutally living again. Not just living, but living with joy.

Ed is an amazing musician. That goes without saying. What makes me appreciate him so much is the way he's inspired so many of us to take the journey with him. Not entirely through shared experiences, but through genuine, heartfelt (and sometimes heartbreaking) lyrics that are so perfectly poinient and vague you can't help but see yourself in them. You can't help but be comforted, inspired, pained, or overjoyed by the music.

    So, here's to you Ed.

And thanx, Ed... for hitting up your celebrity buddies for half a mil to fight the 'Save Trestles' appeals. It would have taken the SurfRiders a long, long time to raise that much money... mostly because surfers are basically bums with wetsuits. You raised that in one evening.
Keep on tapping that barrel for it's endless cash flow... yeah, it's less money they'll have for diamonds, furs and rehab... but, at least they'll have a nice beach to sit on and contemplate the sunset.

  • Great thread Tiff!!

I wish I coulda been there to see those shows, but I did get to see him in an intimate setting at the Toronto Film Festival and WOW what a talent that man is, and FUNNY! I love that he's showing his personality more onstage.

I'd love to hear some of his anecdotes from this tour. Surely some of you remember SOMETHING.

The Dirty Frank tease at SD 1 was funny. Someone yelled out 'Dirty Frank', and i forget what he said, but he started playing the Intro on the Uke.

Here's to you, OneLove, for a beautiful message. You had me at your screenname. Seriously though, you've put my own thoughts into words so well. It's been great fun cross-examining setlists, retelling Ed's jokes, ranting about audience shout-outs, comparing one show to another and generally compiling all the tour minutia. In the end though, what I find most powerful is taking the energy and insights from the music and using it to expand own life, not just cycling it back into a greater fascination with the band. Sometimes I just need a little reminder. Thanks for that : )

Highlight for me, maybe not others.......the pure silence between songs (right before TROUBLE) at SD1. I think that was the only time I didn't hear a stupid heckler in the audience during all the shows I attended. Peace.........

Ed, so much of your life is parallel to mine. I definitely appreciate all the songs you wrote that have been relative to my life. Thanks Ed! :)
