Fact. Violent crime rates in the U.S. are lower than they've been in decades.

We focus on these tragic events and the abundance of media through internet
and tv, and we seem to ignore the statistics that the U.S. is a much safer place than it was in past decades.

What gives?

  • If the people aren't terrified all the time... they might start to question their leaders.

    And we can't have that.

So we're told that there is a danger of Sharia Law in America... we're told that there are heroin addicts roaming the streets and the people need to be armed with AK47s just to go to the corner store (and no, I'm not exaggerating, today a man on Twitter told me that he can't go to the corner store because there are PCP and Heroin addicts that will attack him and he needs an AK47 to just go to the 711).

We're told the terrorists are coming to get us...

And it's all just to divert our attention from how the government has allowed a handful of billionaires to rob the country blind.

okay i need some help here... can someone please describe the scenario in which an EXTREME risk of terrorists attacks alert would be issued. im thinking SIGNIFICANT would be more than high enough to give me concern. im thinking its akin to our wildfire alerts where the highest is CATASTROPHIC... and im thinking back a couple of years when we had that scenario which is why we now have that level of alert... the fires were raging, people were dying, and everyone in the fires' paths was told(if they were told at all) to run for their lives... so again i ask what kind of climate would be required for an EXTREME terrorism alert to be given. im thinking if an EXTREME alert was issue then it would be too late... homeland security, the FBI and the CIA had failed and the terrorists would already be doing their thing ???? i dont know... this is not something we here in australia concern ourselves with.. so i am looking for answers.

oh, this has nothing actually to do with terror.....it has to do with the amount of fear-influenced control that the govt needs to exert in order to carry out whatever mission/policy it is seeking to accomplish/pass.

If the government wants to pass a law, for instance, that says our private lives will be compromised and a search and seizure can legally be carried out just because Larry the Bug Guy saw a roach of a different variety, you can bet that that fear, er, terror alert level will be raised to red, goshdarnit!.

more than gov.control as it's been stated...in my opinion human nature hungers for blood and excitment..
I posted a story about rats made into jellyfish and your post about lower crime rates in the US but the topics that draw the most attention contain death..like Trayvon and the movie theater killings they have pages and pages of posts and comments that sound almost as bad as the crime itself,I don't care what anybody says..the thrist for blood is in our DNA even if it is something as simple as slowing down in your car to see the accident on the freeway..we have to see it even if it bothers us to do so.

I totally agree with this and some of those billionaires ARE in the govt.

From my perspective, it's not about fear or focusing on the negative...or...billionaires? (that one seems a bit of a stretch to me)

I just find it hard to digest the unfathomable things people still (and probably always will) do to eachother, as well as to themselves.

Of course people will be outraged by horrific events. I'd be worried if they weren't, and heaven help me if I ever become blase to this shit.

So, is there an acceptable level of violent crimes? If not, that is the answer to your question.
