Are slipmats like these actually good for using on your turntable? I thought they were more for looks for when there's no record on it. Don't they slip, rather than holding the record tightly coupled to the platter?
You should really always have a slip mat. Protects your records better. Most turntables come with one... just not fun ones.

I have a felt mat on my turntable, I just wasn't sure if it serves the same purpose as these "slip mats". The other ones that I do have (e.g. QOTSA etc) look great, but I don't know that they work as well as the original mat. If they are designed for DJs scratching etc., I think they'd be the opposite of what would perform well for regular listening.

They are really better than a felt one attached to the platter, because they are removable, which makes cleaning them easy. They work great for just playing records. You've got nothing to worry about.

It's not attached to the platter, it's just the factory felt mat. I feel like these are quite different, is all. How are you cleaning your mats? Are you just talking about a quick vacuum? You're not washing them, right?!
I've got a Technics SL-D2 and was considering a cork mat. Anyone use one of these? Thoughts?

I use a cork mat with my project debut carbon. It has cut down on the massive amount of static the turntable was generating so if you've got a problem with that they are worthwhile. It all sounds a little bit tighter as well for want of a better phrase. That being said I think I am going to upgrade to an acrylic platter in the near future.

My rubber mat? Sure, of course i wash it. Just with a little gentle dish detergent to clean off the dust, little smudges, cat hair that somehow finds its way there. Why?? What do you figure is bad about that? Now you've got me freaked out! )

I am kind of happy that there was nothing too enticing in the newsletter, cause I am a little skint before the two shows I am going to attend. But bring on the vinyl freak goodies, Pearl Jam!
Please, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue!

PJ would need a bigger box. There's 10 studio albums, Lo2L, Rearviewmirror, lost dogs, benaroya, Lo10L, ten box, vs/vitalogy box, Vault #3, and that doesn't include bootlegs (which I'm sure most of us at least own a few of ).
You need a box big enough to hold about 20 or 30 vinyl to house a complete PJ collection (and leave room for the next few)
Been asking for years. Started this tread. Will wait a few more.
Yeah cos what we really want to buy is a 3.5" sheep toy figure - wtf is that about?! Slipmats are such an obvious choice - they would definitely sell and actually be useful too.
Are they really useful? Have been playing records for several decades, the same ones even, and have used the rubber cover/Matt that came with turntable. No damage to record. And dust cover keeps dust off table.
Get the "MERCH" appeal but think saying they are useful may be justifying a bit. Course I needed the useful Ed zippos in each color.

Rubber mats are fine. Felt mats, it depends on the quality. My Project came with a very thin felt mat that draws so much static that it crackles throughout the entire record and usually sticks to it. I got a couple custom PJ mats as part of my secret santa gift. They are also felt, but about 3/8" thick and heavy. Static has drastically reduced. Records play with a lot more clarity and no problems with the mat sticking to the record now. They are definitely useful.
