Hands down it has to be Free Bird, drives me insane. Can't really think of any others at the moment.

the band still exists. they still tour. for supposedly having heard it hundreds of times more than me i thought *maybe* you worked with or around them to get that many listens. my fault for taking you at your word when clearly you're just a sarcastic ass. you should do pretty well on the internet!

Jimmy Page can do no wrong with me most of the time. But while we're on the subject of Jimmy, I've never felt the playing guitar with a bow thing. It just sounds like screeching shit to me. And while I give him credit for pushing the envelope, I just wish the envelope didn't sound like somebody scratching a chalkboard.

See I love the bow. It blew my mind the first time I saw it on my Aunt's old Song Remains The Same VHS. But when you go through Zep boots, the bow solo is kinda hit or miss. The ones that made it onto live DVDs/CDs are all pretty good though.

I don't have any Zep bootlegs, but I do have The Song Remains The Same on CD and DVD (the remastered CD with bonus tracks), the Led Zeppelin live DVD, How The West Was Won, and BBC Sessions, and nothing he does with a bow on any of those official live releases do much for me. It looks cool, I'll give Jimmy that, I just don't like the sound. I take that back, I do like it when he hits the strings with the bow. Especially on The Song Remains The Same where he's doing it and has some sort of echo/reverb effect going on. It looks cool/weird, almost like he's not playing.

Yeah really. I never get sick of the Free Bird solo or any part of that song.

Zep is my favorite band but, yeah, the bow-solo thing is kind of overrated, I would agree.

Can't think of any genuinely annoying guitar solos at this point - I'll see what I can come up with.

All the answers so far have been pretty whack. Page's bow thing was pretty badass for his centerpiece solo. Get baked and tell me that ain't some of the trippiest shit you've heard.

Since we've all given horrible answers I'll add to the pile. I've always felt like quite a bit of the endless jamming by ABB was kinda monotonous.

Led Zeppelin 1 would not be the same without the bow on How many more times and Dazed and confused... I think it essential on those studio recordings.

Eddie Phillips of Creation (a Mod 60's band) was doing the bow on the guitar in 1966, about two years before Page copied it. Also, as much as I love Zeppelin, they are biggest musical crooks in history.

I agree: Freebird is another annoying one.

Jimmy Page with the Bow, is one that you probably need to actually be ther, to appreciate it.
