For Those Familiar With Atlanta

I'm driving from Bonnaroo to Columbia, SC on the night before the PJ show in SC, and I am looking for a hotel in Atlanta. Can anyone recommend any areas to stay, and most importantly areas to stay away from?

I was thinking of getting a hotel in Roswell, Alpharetta, or Norcross to avoid downtown (since I won't be in Atlanta for long). Is this a decent area to stay?

Edit: I couldn't wait for an answer...just booked a hotel in Marietta through Priceline.
