Talk about flying under the radar. I was flipping around the dial today and at about 2:30 heard music playing on 101.9. It turns out they ditched the all talk format and went back to music. It's not WRXP but WEMP.

Awesome news! I miss 101.9 RXP, but not TOO too much cuz I found 107.1 The Peak! Signal can be a bit spotty but I do believe NYC gets it as well (station based in Westchester). http://1071thepeak.com/ Check it out! Coolest mix of rock I've ever heard on a regular, FM dial.

K-Rock came back then it was changed to a hits station. Hope it doesn't happen here.

I haven't listened to enough of it but so far I heard Sabotage by the Beastie Boys, Everlong by the Foo Fighters, Fell on Black Days by Soundagarden and Popular by Nada Surf.

My guess is they're in the feeling out stage with the whole thing since I didn't hear any DJs and the website has nothing on it but an audio player for listening online.

meh, it's already doomed from the start. might as well have diamond dave as the morning host and just end it before it goes down the drain like K-Rock, WLIR and WRXP. It's very shocking how modern rock never does well in nyc, but yet classic rock does. you'd think in a city where rock bands are playing everynight that a modern rock station would do good.

I gave up on rock radio, whenever I like it, it's gone a week later.

Sirius all the way, and my IPOD. Only time I listen to FM/AM is when I'm driving thru the midtown or battery tunnels.

WFUV is another great one. I pretty much only listen to 107.1 The Peak, FUV, and Q104. (the first two much, much more than the last...104.3 is good, but often pretty repetitive)

More like Classic Alternative Rock. Classic Rock to me is still Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones. It's an interesting mix so far. In the last two hours, I've heard some of the following

    Small Town - Pearl Jam
Ring of Fire - Social Distortion
    Pretender - Foo Fighters
Burden in My Hand - Soundgarden
    Something by Coldplay.
    Tighten Up - Black Keys
Shake it out - Florence and the Machine

So based on that, it sounds similar in playlist to WRXP.

I like Q for the workforce and Beatles Blocks and 107.1 is good when I'm in a good reception area in Queens. But I agree with you on WFUV. Also good is the alternative side which airs on 91.5 in the mornings.

Just happened to flip to that station too this morning and realized that it was back! :D Started listening to 104.3 as soon as RXP was off the air, and agree that it can be repetitive (never listened to so much RUSH in my life  ). Gonna check out the other stations too (thanks for all the recommendations)!

Dunno really what they're calling it, as I don't listen to the radio much at all. Most of the classic rock stations within in my earshot play most of that stuff and none of them have changed format. Probably no Coldplay, but they do play alot of newer music.

  • I had that sense because their website took a while to get up and running and plus they have no DJs. Even in this era of some automation, stations still have disc jockeys. Plus now both their twitter and facebook pages are nowhere to be found.
