Wouldn't you give him a little credit for finally not pandering to an audience? Surprised the shit out of me that he would say something that people might not want to hear.

He makes a good point about the amount of hiring a small business might or might not do because of health insurance law.

of course he was booed... you guys do it here everyday.

"You know, there was a survey of the Chamber of Commerce -- they carried out a survey of their members, about 1,500 surveyed, and uh, they asked them what effect Obamacare would have on their plans, and three-quarters of them said it made them less likely to hire people," he said when the booing stopped. "So I say, again, that if our priority is jobs, and that's my priority, that's something I'd change and replace."

Why would they not applaud this????

The unemployment rate, the duration of unemployment, average income, and median family wealth are all worse for the black community. In June, while the overall unemployment rate remained stuck at 8.2 percent, the unemployment rate for African Americans actually went up, from 13.6 percent to 14.4 percent. Pretty much double the rate of whites.

I appluad Romney for ushering in THE NEXT AMERICAN CENTURY!

    woot!

I would just like to know where this information came from.
Not because I am anti-Romney or anything... I just have this bad habit of not necessarily believing everything that is said by a politician on the campaign trail like it is the gospel truth.

    Getting booed was the objective.
  • usamamasan1usamamasan1 Posts: 4,695
It was not the objective But was expected...

Still, Romney expressed hope that he did make inroads with some black voters at the speech.

"I spoke with a number African American leaders after the event and they said a lot of folks don't want to say they are not going to vote for Barack Obama but they are disappointed in his lack of policies to improve our schools, disappointed in urban policy, disappointed in the economy," he said. "While we disagree on some issues like Obamacare, a lot of issues we see eye to eye."

Romney Receives 20-Minute Standing Ovation At NAAWP Event

    http://www.theonion.com/articles/romney ... awp,28750/

HOUSTON—During an address Wednesday to the National Association for the Advancement of White People, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney received a lengthy standing ovation from the group of 2,000 Caucasians who had gathered to hear him speak. The NAAWP, a 400-year-old organization with a membership of nearly 8 million whites nationwide, is expected to be firmly in Romney's camp come November. "Thank you, thank you so much," said Romney, whose speech was repeatedly interrupted by wave after wave of raucous applause and numerous chants of "We love Mitt!" "I love you, too. Really, this is too much." Romney’s reception came in stark contrast to the welcome given to President Barack Obama, who spoke to the NAAWP last Thursday and was loudly booed for saying, "Hello, thanks for having me."

that is a very interesting idea

might play into helping him get the white southern racist vote, a demo he is clearly losing to President Obama

but that would be a very interesting tactic on the campaign's part. To what end would they need to do it I wonder?

i listened to the tape, and to be fair, i did not hear any bellowing low "BOOOOO"s, what i heard was basically just disagreement. more groaning or people saying "nooo!" than anything.

i did not hear anything like the old busch stadium crowd booing of pete rose back when i was a kid. i think people went to those games just to boo the shit out of him.

I love how Romney is so against Obamacare....yet as a resident of MA, because of Governor Mitt Romney in 2006, if I don't have health insurance I get taxed on my state return here in MA. He instituted universal healthcare for MA as Governor, but now it is an atrocity to the American people.

After Mitt Romney addressed the NAACP on Wednesday, CNN's Jim Acosta focused on the boos he received from the audience without mentioning the crowd's standing ovation and their applause scattered through the speech. Acosta simply reported a "very negative" reaction from the audience.

because mitt romney has repeatedly said that "it is good for MA, but it's bad for america" without any explanation as to why.

the man will say anything to get elected, lie or not.

i mean, can anyone fathom the BALLS on this guy to run his entire presidential campaign running against the exact same thing he was championing as his crowning achievement and legacy as governor just 3 years ago?

It's good for MA because it was his idea. The truth is that the only reason Conservatives are against this is because it is a good idea and they don't want the Liberals or Obama to get the credit. Like Social Security and Medicare were both liberal ideas which is why they are under attack from the right.

    Politics, plain and simple.

Obama defending extending the Bush tax cuts to everyone three years ago because it would stifle business otherwise. Now he has twisted it into Romney defending the rich.

Do whatever it takes to get elected. That's the name of the game.

Actually he has explained it numerous times, and that it falls under the Tenth Amendment, and is a Right of the State. What is good for MA may not be good for Texas, etc.

It's an issue of State control versus Federal control:

Mitt just comes off so fake to me that i could never vote for a candidate like him ....

He is an embarrassment for Massachusetts. The only reason he was ever elected Governor here is because the Democrats ran a horrible candidate against him... her name is Shannon O'Brien, and she was the State Treasurer at the time. But even though she was horribly ineffective as a candidate, Romney was trailing in the polls all year until a week before Election Day.

He had run this ad during the summer in which he was trying to depict himself as a working man... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEOk0f0ImLQ <--- No one was buying that shit.

But during the final televised debate in early November, Shannon O'Brien came off as being fake too... she couldn't give a straight answer on her views about whether or not teenagers should have parental consent to get an abortion. I swear if Tim Russert, who was the moderator of that debate, hadn't grilled her on that question, she might not have lost that race. In the debates that included the minor party candidates, Jill Stein of the Green Party proved to be much more effective at debating Romney. O'Brien was a terrible debater, and just not an inspiring person.

Romney beat O'Brien 49.77% to 44.94% (4.83% difference). Jill Stein got 3.49% of the vote, therefore no one can say she 'spoiled' the election. O'Brien spoiled it herself by not proving to be a credible alternative. Romney also did a good job at convincing people that he wouldn't govern as a conservative.... here in this video from 2002, he even says 'my views are progressive': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMcjJEXt9To

I blame the Democratic party machine for Shannon O'Brien's candidacy. I voted for Warren Tolman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Tolman) in the primary, and I think he would have cleaned Romney's clock. But Romney was never a popular Governor, and his Lt. Gov lost badly when she ran for Gov after he left to run for President.
