Amazing new artist, the radio station I am interning at turned me on to his music. Incredible old, soulful voice. He reminds me of Otis Redding mixed with Ben Harper. He recently released his debut album called Home Again, which I've been loving. I have a feeling he's going to be big!!

I saw him in NYC a few weeks ago, solid show. The guy has a good voice and comes across as a real nice guy in his crowd interaction. Also did a Hendrix cover which was real cool.

Where was he playing? Really would love to see him live. And FYI, he's playing Webster Hall on September 18th! Too bad I'll already be back at school by then, or else I'd so be there!

He played the Highline Ballroom over in Chelsea, pretty small venue (I live about 3 blocks from there so it's pretty awesome how convenient it is for me).

While I like his style I think his shows are much more suited for seated venues. I saw him at World Cafe Live last month and could have used a seat after a while. Tell Me A Tale is his most upbeat song, and unfortunately he plays that early in the set. The rest of the set is very mellow and relaxed, a more comfortable venue would complement the show immensely.

Third Man Records 7" Single You've Got Nothing To Lose - Michael Kiwanuka

    image

Kiwanuka, a 25 year-old UK native of Ugandan heritage, was raised in north London where he split his time between session work and local gigs. Along the way, having found footing as a solo artist, he was signed to Communion Records, then Polydor, and has since performed throughout Europe and North America too—touring in direct support of Adele. He made his way through Nashville this past summer with just enough pause and aplomb to commit these morsels to tape. The A-side "You've Got Nothing to Lose" is an original composition, featuring The Buzzards' Dominic Davis on upright bass and Cory Younts on piano, joined also by fellow balladeer Lillie Mae Rische on fiddle. Their contributions transform his work into a stone-cold groove with almost orchestral underpinnings, making it a fitting extension of their previous Blue Series.

The single also features a chilling rendition of Townes Van Zandt's infamous "Waitin' 'Round to Die" on the B-side, the perfect compliment to the timbre and mood of the A-side.

    GREAT STUFF!

I only discovered this guy last year, but better late than never - everyone do themselves a favour and give Michael Kiwanuka a listen (especially his album Love & Hate from 2016). He is INCREDIBLE! He just released a live album for RSD 2018 too, called Out Loud!, and it's also fantastic.

Love & Hate is a really great album. Love how the first track is so long to kick it off.

Saw the tail end of his Governor's Ball '17 set and was floored.  Can't wait to try to see him again, is he already touring the US now?

I discovered him this year from a friend and posted Love & Hate video on AMT Lounge thread. I listened to that album for 2 months straight till the songs were ringing in my head. Loving the song Rule The World. I need to hear this live album.

No, he doesn't seem to be on tour at the moment.
