big problem

this is the latest E-mail I have recieved from the Obama camp.

Election Day will be here in less than four months. And we're facing a big problem right now that could directly affect the outcome that day.

The Romney campaign and the Republicans raised $100 million in the month of June alone. That is a massive sum.

Just wait until they start spending all that money in full force in key states we need to win.

Folks, here is the simple reality: Building this campaign today is more important than it was a few days ago. We can still win even while getting outraised by these guys. But we've got to keep it close.

That means none of us -- not one -- can wait to make a difference right now, with whatever we can afford to chip in:

A little incentive: A donation before midnight tonight will also automatically enter you for the chance to sit down with me for a cup of coffee sometime soon. We'll fly you out, and you can bring a guest.

And really -- thanks, for whatever you're able to give today.

Joe

The big problem is how much money is wasted on elections.

How can we as a country in good conscience sit by and spend this amount of money so these criminals can further their political careers (i.e. scam our political system for monetary gain) when there are so many people in the world going hungry?

We should be ashamed of ourselves. It sickens me.

Anyone I know who has donated to political parties gets calls daily asking for more, more, and more.

Did anyone give to Tester and give a real phone number? Just curious if you were put on the dem's roto-caller list.

$150M spent so far in swing-state by both groups. 1 in 12 say that ads have changed their opinion on who to vote for, with 76% now supporting Obama.

I gave a secondary email address so I'll have to check it and see. But I was too scared to give a real phone #.

Looks like the Tester re-election is going to be an important one for control of the Senate. I checked out his opponent and I have a good conscious on who my $10 is supporting.

Is it wasted? Sure stimulates the economy all that spending. ;)

Ad agencies and media sure aren't complaining.

I guess that kind of explains why you don't see a bunch of articles campaign spending reform. :fp:

Yeah - I know. Technically it gives people lots of jobs and gives other companies work. It's the principle that bugs me.

We ought to just all sell our votes to the highest bidder and pocket a little $$$ personally.

Isn't the winner the one with the most cash anyway? We might as well get some green for the little man.

Well, I've got some good news and some bad news.

Good news first: June was our best fundraising month yet. We exceeded expectations -- more than 706,000 people stepped up and pitched in for a grand total of $71 million raised for this campaign and the Democratic Party.

Bad news? We still got beat. Handily. Romney and the RNC pulled in a whopping $106 million.

So, to recap: We had our best fundraising month yet, and we still fell about $35 million short. We can win while being outspent -- but we need to keep it close.

You know what that means. We've got some work to do.

Pitch in $3 or more right now to start closing the gap.

This is no joke. If we can't keep the money race close, it becomes that much harder to win in November.

But this election isn't about how much money our campaigns can raise -- none of us would be fighting this hard just to win a money war. We're here because we believe in something bigger -- because none of us wants to see this country go back to the policies that drove our economy into a ditch, which is exactly what the other side wants to do.

Whatever it is that brings you to this fight, what happens next is up to you. Donate today:

Someone might as well try it. Not like there is a huge difference in the efficiency of either party.

I think $100 would buy about 70% of the main population's vote. Focus that in the swing states and I figure you could buy the election for around $1B.

The big problem is the idea in voter's heads that the one who raises and spends the most money deserves to win.

You're right and I think that's a great plan. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. But...the $300 should only go to the people who vote for the winner.

We're getting outraised -- a first for a sitting president, if this continues. Not just by the super PACs and outside groups that are pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into misleading ads, but by our opponent and the Republican Party, which just outraised us for the second month in a row.

We can win a race in which the other side spends more than we do. But not this much more.

So I need your help. If you believe that regular people should decide elections, then please chip in $3 or more today.

This isn't about me or the outcome of one election.

This election will be a test of the model that got us here. We'll learn whether it's still true that a grassroots campaign can elect a president -- whether ordinary Americans are in control of our democracy in the face of massive spending.

I believe we can do this. When all of us chip in what we can, when we can, we are the most powerful force in politics.

But today is the day to prove it. Donate now:

Thank you -- for everything you've done before and everything you're doing now. It matters.

if you all don't mind I have a question, we are down to the final two and I just want your opinions of which is the lesser of two evils..so to speak, politics aside if that's possible..which man do you think has the best heart and interest for our welfare,I'm not asking for a list of mistakes by either man or what their policys are I just want to know who has the best heart and moral interest for our country in your opinions, me personally I'm undecided at this point.

i Personally think that Barack has the average persons interests more at heart than Mitt Romeny, there are many reasons i feel this is the case but the one most glaring one is their backgrounds, in a race between a community organiser(yes harvard law educated etc but still) versus a CEO type you would have to trust the community organiser to be more interested in the welfare of who he serves.
