Interested to hear other Jammers views on X... we'd been told by a few people before we went in (who'd been the night before, opening night in Manchester for them) that they didn't think much of them.... However we thought they were the best support act so far (know I've only been to 2 gigs but my bf has notched up about 7/8, got home and have ordered a couple of their cds... great to feel we've discovered something "new"...

Just wanted to throw it open to other opinions...

I have been a bit of an X fan for a number of years. They really have some amazing, powerful, intelligent songs. so I was really looking for ward to seeing them in Costa Rica last year, and I have to say, I was underwhelmed - mainly because I think Exene's voice and delivery aren't what they are on record. I will be singing along on Tuesday in Copenhagen though...

So, if you thought they were great live, then you will love the records. Enjoy!

They've grown on me past few shows (seen them 3 times this tour - first Manchester show wrote them off, apart from an intreresting Doors cover) - but by Berlin 2, was nodding along to a few of the songs I recognised, especially Los Angeles. Can't get the image of the smug old codger on guitar though smiling away through the whole set - didn't have the air of punk about him!

Best support I've seen - althouhg I am a fan of Gomez, they didn't do too well at London 2009 - was probably My Morning Jacket in 2006, not really a fan of there's but they had the audience in Paris captivated.

My first gig was 2009 when Gomez was supporting and altho I checked them out before and liked what I heard... live I wasn't so impressed.
Los Angeles and Nausea stood out for me in Manchester, maybe by the 2nd night they'd loosened up? Do know what you mean about Billy but having looked back at their interviews/gigs from the 80s he was just the same then and as a band they work so who's to argue! lol
  • I had only briefly listened to one or two songs before we saw them at Manchester 1 & 2 --- Devil Doll was the only song I knew really well so I loved it when they played it the 2nd night -- especially how they dedicated it to all the 10C members -- so I kind of knew what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. I liked them much better than I thought I would and I liked their cover of "Soul Kitchen". They made me want to listen to their music afterwards, which is a great thing.

On the 2nd night, I could recognize a few songs from the previous night -- which made it even better. Their music made me dance and move a little -- I thought it was fun.

we where laughing about the guitarist at prague, he looks like he has just heard some inside joke that were don't know

apparantly its his trademark though, he picks some on out in the front and stares at them until they get creeped out.

how i would describe X, and i mean this as a complement, is a poor mans pixies

I like them more and more after every show. Good catchy songs. The guitarist is funny, John Doe cool. Bought a 5cd set of their albums in Berlin for 10 euros, not a bad deal. They seem to be staying at the same hotel as me in Stockholm, saw them earlier today.

I never miss an opening act at any live show and always treat them with respect but with X...it's just no fun. I don't know exactly what it is that make them such a turn-off - I think it has to do with the songs being so similar (I know it's late 70s Punk but...well).

    I love creepy guitar guy!

John Doe was killing it at Berlin 2. Was right in front of him and the man knows how to work the crowd.
Still can't believe I met Mike Mccready at the Guggenheim and got a pic with him!!!!!

Know what you mean Karley about never missing the opening act and knowing that PJ take the time to choose who they want to open for them cos they like them makes it extra special (unlike so many other bans whose management decide who they want to piggyback the main acts success). Sorry they aren't doing it for you :(

John Doe is a legend (Garden State is such a beautiful song), Billy is hilarious (and all credit to him at 64!), and Exene... I did hear her likened to Susan Boyle but thank f**k she doesn't sound like her, I do think there's something about her voice and that it's something good :)
