Holy. Shit. Fantastic album.

Santana+_Abraxas_.jpg

This has been my soundtrack for the past couple of days.

The title of the album comes from a line from Herman Hesse's book Demian, which is quoted on the album's back cover: "We stood before it and began to freeze inside from the exertion. We questioned the painting, berated it, made love to it, prayed to it: We called it mother, called it whore and slut, called it our beloved, called it Abraxas...."

The segue-way from Singing Winds, Crying Beasts to Black Magic Woman is awesome. With "Santana" coming out in 1969 and then this album coming out in 1970, that is a hell of a one-two punch of albums.

I've always liked Santana but in recent years, I've grown a really big appreciation for their material. This album is a must have, in my opinion.

Definitely an all time great. Sounds like it was recorded in outer space.

    A must for the headphones.

Yeah, great album. When it comes to Santana I really only mess with the first 3 studio albums (Santana, Abraxas, Santana III) and the the first live album, Lotus.

That's kind of my stomping ground with Santana too. All of those are great albums.

Get the new album. Nothing like his last couple pop albums. All instrumental except 1 song. It is incredible. Definitely worthy of his original legacy. Going to see him duel headliner with Allmans in a few weeks, and I honestly would not mind if he played just the new album start to finish (extended versions, of course). Not that I'd mind him doing abraxas either.

Santana and the Allmans? Fucking awesome. Two albums that I recently picked up and have not been able to stop listening to are "Abraxas" and "Live At Fillmore East"

The Allman Brothers are legendary in their own right. I'll give his new stuff a chance if you're putting such a big stamp of approval on it.

It's gotta be outdoors. A ceiling simply cannot contain all that awesomeness.

Caravanserai is another amazing early Santana album that's a must in any collection.

Yeah, I like that one too.

For all you Abraxas fans, here's a nice clip from 1971:

It barely did!!! Went Tuesday at Jones Beach - 4 freaking hours (Santana for 2, ABB for 2) of Carlos, Derek and Warren just jamming. Carlos played with the Brothers on the 2nd part of Mountain Jam (so, in other words for "just" about 15 minutes instead of the full 35 minutes). What a show.

And Carlos is just the coolest guy. Who else could pull of all white linen from head to toe? I guess if you can play like that, anything looks cool.
