disgusting...

so joe walsh is a republican tea party member and he basically just trashed his opponent and her service. i thought the gop base supports the troops? this is an incredibly tasteless attack on her....

so what would have made her a "true hero"? she lost both legs defending americans like joe walsh and she is still not a "true hero" who the fuck would vote for this guy?

i love the update part where he apologizes and says he respects her service while in the same breath bashes her repeatedly in a different way. it is a backhanded apology and a backhanded compliment.....

news flash joe walsh....there are thousands of disabled veterans and they are coming back home and they will be running for office. they are going to be taking on assholes like walsh and they are going to talk about their service, and the effects that that service has had on them and will continue to have on them. they are going to push legislation to make sure that the government takes care of all veterans, which is something the current congress has ignored. these vets are not going to go hide and they are not going away...joe walsh, consider yourself warned.

Joe Walsh Accuses Tammy Duckworth, Double Amputee, Of Not Being A 'True Hero'

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/0 ... 46793.html

Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) on Sunday accused his Democratic opponent Tammy Duckworth -- a double-amputee veteran of the Iraq War -- of not being a "true hero" because she made her military service central to her campaign.

After calling Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) a "noble hero" for downplaying his military experience during a 2008 presidential bid, Walsh shifted gears to Duckworth at an Elk Grove, Ill., town hall.

Duckworth lost both her legs after Iraqi insurgents hit her helicopter with a rocket propelled grenade in 2004. She is now challenging incumbent Walsh in Illinois' re-drawn 8th Congressional district.

"Now I'm running against a woman who, my God, that's all she talks about," said Walsh, a Tea Party freshman. "Our true heroes, it's the last thing in the world they talk about."

Sunday's event was not the first time Walsh mocked Duckworth for touting her military record on the campaign trail.

In an interview with Politico's David Catanese in March, Walsh brushed off Duckworth's military credentials and accused of her being "nothing more than a handpicked Washington bureaucrat":

“I have so much respect for what she did in the fact that she sacrificed her body for this country,” said Walsh, simultaneously lowering his voice as he leaned forward before pausing for dramatic effect. “Ehhh. Now let’s move on.”
“What else has she done? Female, wounded veteran … ehhh,” he continued. “She is nothing more than a handpicked Washington bureaucrat. David Axelrod, Rahm Emanuel just picked her up and dropped her into this district."

The same day the Politico story ran, Walsh told Chicago Magazine that he "meant something other than how it came out" when he was being asked about Duckworth.

Walsh has never served in the military.

UPDATE: Walsh released a statement Tuesday afternoon clarifying his town hall remarks about Duckworth's military record.

“Of course Tammy Duckworth is a hero. I have called her a hero 100’s of times in the past four months. Just like every man and woman who has worn the uniform, her service demands -- demands -- our utmost respect. That’s why I recognize our veterans at the beginning of every one of my public town halls. However, unlike most veterans I have had the honor to meet since my election to Congress, who rarely if ever talk about their service or the combat they’ve seen, that is darn near all of what Tammy Duckworth talks about. Her service demands our thanks and our respect but not our vote. She is running for Congress -- and there are real problems in this country like our massive debt, high unemployment and the Obamacare tax. We are about four months from Election Day and the people of Illinois have no idea where Tammy Duckworth stands on these issues because she dodges debate requests, ignores our invitations to speak at town halls, refuses to talk about solutions and constantly reminds voters of her war service. Our thoughts and prayers will always be with her for her service and her loss but these are serious times and the people of Illinois deserve to know what she thinks about real issues and what she will do as a Congresswoman."

I like what Joe Walsh said about Tammy Duckworth. This Joe Walsh, that is:

Why (rocker) Joe Walsh endorsed Tammy Duckworth against (Congressman) Joe Walsh
    By Ed O'Keefe

CHICAGO — 2chambers is in the Windy City this week for a mix of business and pleasure and has heard the big news here: Joe Walsh is endorsing Tammy Duckworth.

Joe Walsh performs during the 2012 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in May. (Rick Diamond - GETTY IMAGES) No, not the Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) that Duckworth is running against, but the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Eagles guitarist. And some might consider his support for the Democrat a bit of payback.

Two years ago when Walsh — the lawmaker — first ran for Congress, he borrowed a song by the other Walsh called “Walk Away” and changed the lyrics. The move prompted the musician’s attorney to send a tongue-in-cheek letter to Walsh's campaign:

“You’re not allowed to take someone’s song and change the lyrics,” the attorney wrote. “This is not to say you’re not allowed to write silly lyrics, you just have to write them to your own music. Now, I know why you used Joe’s music — it’s undoubtedly because it’s a lot better than any music you or your staff could have written. But that’s the point. Since Joe writes better songs than you do, the Copyright Act rewards him by letting him decide who gets to use the songs he writes.”

Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) (Manuel Balce Ceneta - AP) On Tuesday, Walsh — the musician — announced that he’s supporting Duckworth: “I’m the real Joe Walsh, and I’m proud to back a real American success story — Tammy Duckworth,” he said in a statement released by the campaign. “Tammy’s story, her service to our nation and her continued commitment to working families (like the one I come from!) have convinced me that she’s the right choice for Congress.”

Adding to the buzz, Walsh — the musician — plans to perform a special concert for Duckworth’s campaign on July 1 in the Illinois 8th Congressional District, an area encompassing Evanston, a suburb north of Chicago.

Tammy Duckworth. (M. Spencer Green - AP Photo) In response, Walsh campaign spokesman Christian Morgan told the Chicago Sun-Times: “Is anyone really surprised when Tammy gets support from the liberal entertainment industry? This is, after all, the same candidate that raised more money last quarter from San Francisco than she did from the entire 8th District. Tammy can have the support of the ‘Hotel California’ liberal elite. Congressman Walsh is more concerned with getting the support of hard working families from the 8th District.”

The Sun-Times also noted that the musician Walsh employs Ari Emanuel as his agent. It just so happens that Ari Emanuel is the brother of Rahm Emanuel, the Chicago mayor and former congressman who backed Duckworth’s first and ultimately unsuccessful 2006 congressional campaign.

Duckworth, an Iraq war veteran, left her job a year ago as a Department of Veterans Affairs assistant secretary to run against Walsh in what promises to be one of the most closely watched attempts by Democrats to unseat a GOP lawmaker.

And, if you’re wondering, no, Duckworth has no current plans to use supporter Joe Walsh’s name or image in any campaign literature — or to use any of his music. At least not without asking his permission first.

still not quite sure how they pulled that off. Somehow a guy who may or may not have dodged his National Guard duty was more honorable and prepared to lead the military than a decorated veteran. all you can do is tip your hat sometimes...

I wonder where this came from...........

Really, I can understand the sentiment. Not knowing enough about it, but if any candidate focuses on 1 topic of their history and avoids discussion of all else, it should be criticized. Obviously, this guy coulda used a word-smith on his campaign team though. ;)

Just to be clear I'm not saying that is what is occurring in this instance, but it does occur and people should be able to call it out.

At the beginning of that interview he says that anyone that's ever been in the military is a hero. Really? Some of them are rapists and murderers and really bad people. The hyperbole when people speak about the troops has gotten out of hand.
