Now I know we all love Johnny, I have tons of his music... I didn't see a thread on here dedicated just for him. If there is let me know and I will delete this. I just figured there's a lot of people out there who don't know a lot of his other stuff, so why not help them out... Post some Johnny songs you like and let's spread the joy of his great music..

i always have great respect for people like Johnny, who just dont give a damn. He didnt. He couldnt care less, he just wrote and played great music. He didnt care about what fans thought, or critics, or naysayers. The ultimate rebel and radical. KInd of reminds me of the Dylan thread. Both he and Dylan are most remembered for their earlier work, but both arguably have created in the case of Dylan, and did create in Johnnys case, a later career of great albums that match or equal their earlier work.

The Rick Rubin stuff Johnny did, the American Recordings stuff is great.

Love Johnny Cash. I didn't get turned onto him until the American Recordings years, but have since gone back and picked up a LOT of his earlier stuff as well. Doesn't get much better than Cash.

I've listened to Johnny Cash since I was very young, around 1976 - 77 I suppose. My father was a big fan of Kris Kristoffersen and Willie Nelson but he had some JC too on vinyl of course, Fulsom, San Quentin, Man In Black and Ragged Old Flag from what I remember. That Fulsom show is as iconic as Elvis in Vegas, Marilyn Monroe with her skirt blowing upwards or the Empire State building. A true legend and although he sunk to a few lows, most recently almost his entire 80's output, he returned even stronger and won over another two generations of listeners. The Rick Rubin recordings are the most honest and stripped bare songs he ever did and it was amazing to hear him choose such autobiographical lyrics towards his later years and subsequent health problems that put him to rest. It was clear that he chose every chapter in his life to be told through song. His story will never die and people will be singing his songs in 100 years time the same as he kept the old gospel songs alive. Nice that he now has a thread here.
