Rush Limbaugh: I'll Leave Country Over Health Bill

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162- ... 03544.html

    March 9, 2010 1:20 PM

Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh said on his radio show that he will eventually leave the country if the health care bill passes and its provisions are implemented.

Liberal media watchdog Media Matters recorded Limbaugh's comments, which you can hear at left. At the 1:20 mark, Limbaugh says the following: "I'll just tell you this, if this passes and it's five years from now and all that stuff gets implemented -- I am leaving the country. I'll go to Costa Rica."

It is not clear if Limbaugh was making a joke, if he was saying he would leaving the country permanently, or if he was saying he would leave just for health care.

The radio host was responding to a caller who asked, "If the health care bill passes, where would you go for health care yourself?"

As Karen Tumulty points out, Limbaugh's suggestion that he will go to Costa Rica seems odd in light of the fact that the country offers government-financed universal health care.

Nope, just a statement about voting patterns and perception. I'm countering the Republican/conservative/status quo pom-poms that hopefully you've been seeing in this thread. People are trying to spin this into a negative for dems/Obama because their 'side' lost. People often lose track that elections are about the people in the middle.

The good I see in it is that it's a step closer to a single-payer system, I just hope it doesn't take another 40 years. By the way, I dumped my dem registration in the 90's when Clinton dropped their healthcare reform. Dem's/Obama are generally too centrist for me.

I don't see how this is any closer to single payer. Texas and Fla can continue their non-expansion of Medicaid while getting the same funding they've always gotten. What do you think that does to States that do expand? What type of citizens do you think that attracts?

And for the record - a Democrat in NY made Medicaid Managed Care Manadatory. So, even single payer doesn't seem to achieve the Dem's goals of killing the golden goose. Single payer does not bend the cost curve.

Spin, don't spin. I honeslty think Obama is still winning in November. There's still no IQ test prior to voting.

Single payer systems in other countries have lower costs, so I'm not sure why you're quick to dismiss it. I think this a step closer to single payer in the U.S. because it can create a shift in thinking about healthcare away from the individual emphasis (which is an extension of our culture) to a more shared expense type thinking (not sure if that makes sense). It elevates the notion that we're all paying for each other's healthcare, rather than the current thinking of 'some people get theirs for free, and some pay for theirs'.

This sentence: "What type of citizens do you think that attracts" seems like a swipe at poor people. My response to that is that states that take better care of their poor people tend to have higher quality of life indicators. States with higher quality of life indicators tend to attract employers that provide good, decent jobs. Therefore, states that expand their Medicaid will draw some people who need it, as well as citizens who are well educated/trained for higher level jobs, and the end result will also be elevating the economic status of the poor.

Also, private health insurance isn't doing a very good job of lowering costs. If something like this helps lower the cost of Medicaid:
    http://www.oregonlive.com/health/index.ssf/2012/04/national_medicaid_companies_wa.html

Then what you'll see is a push in that direction.

I disagree. They have done nothing for so long. If you are ok with that, well then, don't know what to tell ya.

The real problem is they have no idea what they are doing and it's a lot of $ and people's health to be guessing.

 Truth be told, they did declare the Mandate itself unconstitutional. It's the TAX that makes it legal.

So, while the headline is very misleading, it's hardly Dewey beats Truman.

It's Obama's Raised Taxes on the Middle and Lower Class!!!! That's something the 1% can really get behind. ;)

I really think Obama and the Senate Dems should propose amending PPACA to add malpractice reform, and DOUBLE DARE the Tea B**ers to vote against it. Stupid democrats not having it in there to begin with.

Michelle Obama Cites Jesus as Model for Citizenship

First lady Michelle Obama Thursday offered a rare public reflection on her religious faith, telling a conference of the African Methodist Episcopal church that the life of Jesus Christ is a model for democratic organizing.

"It's kind of like church," Obama said. "Our faith journey isn't just about showing up on Sunday for a good sermon and good music and a good meal. It's about what we do Monday through Saturday as well, especially in those quiet moments, when the spotlight's not on us, and we're making those daily choices about how to live our lives.

I don't know why reform issues were completely ignored. Health care prices are going to sour.

Hospital directors are going to require plastic surgery to remove the smiles from their faces. The just got at least 40 million new clients. And the insurers can't use pre-existing issues to deny coverage (this is a good thing ... although it will be exploited by mark-ups).
