Often gets asked in America

'How do you speak such good English'

Really?

Apparently we don't speak English in Australia...

He also says, that trash talk on the court consists of

'Go back to Australia, you don't belong here'

and 'I'm going to come and find you in summer'

Just an FYI

Loved him when he was a Runnin' Ute!

I am a Utah Ute fan, but haven't followed him into the NBA. Could give a rats ass these days concerning that rag tag bunch of bawlers.

Did they expect him to turn up to training wearing an akubra hat looking like Crocodile Dundee?
I bet they were shocked when he turned up in his training gear.

Where is the actual story/interview about this? Because after doing some internet searches the only thing I can find about this topic, is this actual topic.

I don't believe that he is "often" asked that. American's general view of Australia probably isn't accurate (it's likely a mashup of Crocodile Dundee, Crocodile Hunter, Mad Max and Men At Work videos) but I don't know of anybody who thinks Australians don't speak English.

Unless, as somebody mentioned, it's just trash talk.

I'm an Aussie living In the US and I have got asked what language I spoke when I was in Australia several times... It's demeaning and had no idea people can be that sheltered not to know simple things like that.

I am Australian and I speak Croatian to my parents and relatives and English to everyone else.
So I guess if an American was to ask me I'd have to go easy on them

 I think your uncle probably took that the wrong way. That is the oldest, dumbest, and corniest "joke" (joke is in quotes because I've never found it that funny, it one of those stupid things people say jokingly though) that people say all the time around here.

It's possible somebody said it sincerely, after all there are stupid people in the world, and most people can't hear their own accent. But I think maybe they were just having a little fun with your uncle.
