Nat Geo star and punk poet Henry Rollins hits the campaign trail this fall for a two-month tour hitting all 50 state capitals – starting September 6 at Hawaiian Brian’s in Honolulu, HI – and wrapping up on the eve of the Presidential election at the 9:30 Club in the nation’s capital.

Titled Capitalism, Henry’s latest talking tour offers not so much a voting guide as an outside viewpoint – and an unflinching quest for truth that’s sadly lacking in the profit-driven American mass media.

“I will be performing across our fine nation, doing shows in the capital city of each state. We will be going all the way up to election eve,” he says. “It's always a great time to be in America, but this will be the highpoint of this year's tour. Shepard Fairey did a great poster for the tour to make it extra noteworthy. I can't wait to start this one.”

On Capitalism, Henry will continue to dish anecdotes gleaned and perspective gained from the road less traveled – sharing experiences that include recent visits to North Korea, Mongolia, Bhutan, Vietnam, India, Tibet, Sudan, Uganda, Haiti and Cuba. And in the spirit of the season, of course, expect both pointed commentary and wry observations about the American democratic process as it unfolds.

Tickets for all Capitalism shows go on sale Friday, June 29.

This tour follows the just-concluded run of Canadian dates for his current tour (The Long March) with two weeks of European dates in July and August, including stops at the Wacken Festival in Wacken, Germany and the OFF Festival in Katowice, Poland. Henry is awesome! Just saw him at Montreal a couple weeks ago. Pleased to see he will be at The Egg in Albany - I saw him there in 08, just may have to see this tour. He is a badass, no doubt about it.

  • I saw him for the first time this year and I was not dissappointed. This guy is a legend.

If you have the opportunity, go.

Saw him in Louisville in March (on the "Long March" tour) and loved it. Will have to make the drive to Frankfort this fall. Checked out the theater where it's scheduled, and it's an actual theater with nice seats! An upgrade from all the other "rock club" venues where I've seen him (not enough chairs, and mostly beat up, crappy chairs anyway). I'm all for standing through a music show, but when it's one guy talking for three hours, a cushy seat will be nice.

Seeing him in Edinburgh in August,he's playing at the Edinburgh International Festival Fringe.

First saw his Spoken Word shows in the early 90's,have barely missed a tour in Scotland since. The man is a legend!

There is no excuse needed to be found not to go.

Wow - nothing but positive comments. I've only seen a video of him doing spoken word - I believe it was in Seattle. Had me cracking up - but then he throws his vast amount of knowledge in there. Good stuff. Looking forward to it. Just hoping the tickets are not crazy expensive.

They won't be super expensive - he keeps prices very reasonable IMO.

I plan on taking my sons (ages 10 and 8) anyone know if that's a good idea or not? I'm sure he won't use any language that they don't already hear on a regular basis.

The language can be salty, and the topics can range from sexual to violent (on the last tour, he told the tale of witnessing a stabbing in his Black Flag days) to political (might bore the kids). But there's a great element of teaching open-mindedness and willingness to see new things and new places that's very refreshing.

    Definitely something to consider.

Also, I'm not sure if the content, even the comedic stuff, will entertain an 8 and 10 year old.

I wouldn't take anyone under 16 to see Henry's show. Not because of colourful language, his shows in the UK always have an age restriction.
The first number of times I saw him it was an over 21's show, then over the years over 18,then over 16 and his show I saw at the beginning of this year,as well as the one I will see in August is over 14's.I doubt he will reduce the age further than that.
This is an adult show, with adult topics,he doesn't use inappropriate language,it's not Henry's style, anyone who knows the way he presents himself would know this, there are many political references, references to very old music, cinema, authors.
I would very much doubt it would be a show that young children would get or appreciate. Not saying your children wouldn't behave but I'd be very pissed of if I was at show and there were young children in the audience who were bored and moaning, there is nothing more irritating when at a show than kids who don't want to be there.Jeez I've seen adults at Henry's show moan about not wanting to be there because it wasn't what they expected.
I'd get a sitter and go and enjoy and evening of hearing Henry's take on the world.

I urge you to go to his website and buy Talk is cheap volume 2 (buy anything else too its all class) The two tracks entitled Its Kiss are some of the funniest things I've ever heard.

I have had those cds for nearly 10 years now and they get an airing at least three times a year. Go and see him whenever he tours your area , you will learn something and laugh your ass off in the process.

And he replies to your emails, they may not be the longest replies but he has always answered any questions I've fired at him.

I wouldn't - it is not the language issue (you might hear a fuck once or twice, no biggie), but in general it is adult topics regarding politics, society, world travel and encounters in other countries, with some music stories too. I love going to Henry's shows (seen him in Utica, Albany, Montrealx2, and Ottawa) but it is in general just not of interest to kids that young IMO. They may not understand half the stuff he talks about. Now if it was Pearl Jam go for it - I'm not against taking youngers to shows (my daughter saw her first PJ show at 8), just don't think Henry would be their thing.

Like everyone else mentioned, taking kids to spoken word is not only extremely boring for them but it's over their heads. Get a sitter and enjoy the night out!

Looking forward to seeing Rollins, looks like a great tour.

In reply to Lukin fan about spoken word DVDs I heartily recommend the Live at Luna Park DVD.

The show itself is very cool but the extra which is a tale about him and Iggy Pop is worth the price 10 times over. very funny indeed.

Also the Talking from the box dvd (shot in the early 90's) is excellent. Cool story about Bun Bun the rabbit.

There are some on youtube you can watch but Luna Park, Provoked and Shock and Awe are all good. I'm not sure how many dvds he has as most of the material I have are audio.

Ms. dc went to the SLC show with a couple of girlfriends and said it was great. Not as political as she thought it was going to be given the tour name.

Also, $15? Tickets for the SLC show were I think around $35, so you're getting a deal.

Oh wow - I figured he was charging $15 for all of his shows. It's on Florida State's campus and FSU students even get in for free. Pretty crazy. I guess he's getting paid regardless for the night.
