it is funny to me how republicans supported the individual mandate before the law passed. it was their idea, now it is allegedly unconstitutional....
:corn:
I see what you did there.
How is it funny/a surprise to anyone that political parties/members switch positions?
The famous quote, "I was for it before I was against it" comes to mind.
Pretty cool article though. I was expecting some sort of hit piece and I didn't get that from it at all. Thanks
That's why I posted it. Slanted hit pieces, coming from the left or right, are a waste of time; but, it sure as hell gives people talking points for those happy-hour politics discussions.
As far as race is concerned, I feel that it is a factor. Maybe not so much a (sole) reason to hate the man, but in the sense that racism still exists in this country. And yes, racism against whites, Asians, Arabs, and other groups, whether it be in the form of anti-semitism or anti-gay attitudes, also exists. But, historically speaking, there is one from of racism that has been most present.
Would it be an incredible shock that a handful of white Republicans in office--federal and state--have an anti-Obama stance that is rooted in racism? That a handful of black Dems would feel the same way against a white president?
I would guess that many of us know people who are racist. That shows how prevalent it still is.
Obama's race simply makes it easier to pin "accusations" such as "he was not born here," "he is a muslim," "he is a socialist" on him. In a way, his race makes those accusations stick. In some sense, each accusation is stating that he is not American, he is not one of us; he is an outsider, "the Other." There ALWAYS needs to be an Other.

can't let the black guy get any credit for anything...
As true as it is that some of the GOP and the heritage foundation supported an individual mandate. Let me say this. I don't care if The Great Communicator himself supported it. I would still say it's Unconstitutional. For one there has never been a bill or a law for that matter that forces individuals to enter into an agreement to purchase a product or service for simply being a living and breathing Hunan being. NEVER!!! THe commerce clause is being turned on it's head by the Obama admin as they try to defend this.
And yet you have to throw race into the equation. I read your other rant about accusing the right of racism if you don't support Obama or his agenda :fp:  . :x shame on you Rod. Why are you guys obsessed with race, class warfare and sex ? You really need to look at the history of the party that you support when it comes to racism.

i will direct you to romneycare. the exact same bill as obamacare. the individual mandate is in romney's bill and it is legal and within the constitution. a black man, or even if clinton tried to apply that to the rest of the country you would get what we have today. if it is within the constitution, as courts have ruled, what is the fucking problem? the black guy supports it, so the white leaders can't???? it is the same fucking bill as romneycare. look it up.. it is funny that you said "some" supported it, when it was the centerpiece of the republican agenda had mccain won....
you are really quoting the commerce clause?? you would say obama was violating the commerce clause if he had a vegetable garden on the white house lawn and gave away the harvest....
no chris, i did not accuse those common voters that do not support obama or his agenda of racism. just those in power in the republican party...i am flat out telling you that the people framing the debate with the rhetoric that they are using are racists. all of the things i said, those assumptions in the post i made that you referenced, are true. was clinton, who passed nafta under pressure from republicans, called a socialist? was lbj accused of being born elsewhere because he supported civil rights? was jfk undermining the constitution for wanting to avoid escalating in vietnam?? you are passing off talking points as fact as if most of us on this train are a bunch of dumbasses who do not read our history, and it is offensive. i for one am not going to let you guys get away with it. we can dumb down the discussion on fox's website or msnbc, but not here. i respect this place too much to let it devolve into the yahoo comments page...
how am i obsessed with class warfare? when it is mitch mcconnell who came out 3 days ago and said that the poor need to stop sponging off of the rich via entitlement programs... we can't raise taxes on the "job creators" who for some reason, given the lowest tax burden in 30 years, can not create fucking jobs....
and again, i will vote democratic...not because i support their history of segregation etc, but because they are like the old republicans, and the republicans these days are like the dixiecrats....you don't believe me chris?? look at what your party stands for these days....if you are so offended by my positions you should vomit at the piositions that the gop has taken the last 12 years...
"You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
I already know that you're not going to even consider changing your mind or even admit that you are way off base on this subject, but what the hell there's still a chance that one day you might see the light. First of all I don't like Romney bcos he has no principals. he's fliped flopped on so many issues over the years that I don't trust him at all He claims to be a conservative and with that said there isn't a damn thing thats even close to conservatism when it comes to " Romney care " His argument is that his bill is constitutional due to the fact that it fall under states rights and Federalism. And citizens of Massachusetts can opt out if they choose. So with that said no principled conservative would ever support any kind of gov run health care with a mandate. So yeah you are right that they have their similarities but to say that The PACA is a carbon copy is wrong.
The reason I brought up the Commerce Clause is bcos that is the Obama administrations argument in defense when it comes to the Individual Mandate. Which if you go and read the commerce clause you will see just how ridiculous it is for the Obama admin to even think that it could apply to forcing individuals to enter into a private contract with a private corporation.
As far as your whole idea that the Republican est is racist bcos they are not compromising with the Democrats and Obama I think you are letting your emotions get the best of you. i mean what proof do you have ? You dont have any. Is Tim Scott a racist or how about Allen west, Herman Cain, Or how about MLK"s Niece who belongs to one of the tea parties ? Look I could go on and on when it comes to Black conservatives. And for what it's worth there is a difference between Conservatives and your typical RINOS. You guys constantly play the race card and normal clear thinking americans are sick of it bcos it has no merit what so ever. Haven't you ever stopped and wondered who and why some people are constantly throwing race into any equation they can? We have come since the civil rights era.
IMHO I think you really need to sit back and think real hard about the Democratic party and how it's changed just in the last 10 years. And furthermore what do want our country to look like 25 years from now Can't you see that those who are in power care nothing more than getting re elected and taking away more of our hard earned money and our private property rights. Good god man just look how Obama has abused his power on several different occasions. He's a utopian statist. Just listen how he talks. Do you care that our elected officials abide by the constitution that they swore to uphold ? Or would you rather live under some kind of authoritative dictatorship and an all power centralized gov ? I just dont think you see or understand where we are headed if we don't reverse course Rod.
And for what it's worth Im disgusted with The Republican est and the Democrats as well.

Race and gender will always matter. I just don't think we are that advanced.
