i just created some fake data and my vlookp worked just fine
=VLOOKUP(A5,Sheet1!A:GC,173,FALSE)
=VLOOKUP($E3,'[2013 Budget Comparison.xls]sheet1'!$A$2:$FO$7843,AM$1,FALSE)
and then I tried to paste that into 16,209 rows by 169 columns, which is 2,739,321 cells.
it didn't like it.0 -

"Harry is calling...and left a message"
"Harry is sitting across from the table from me"
