Pretty amazing little read, wish I had it a week ago when I was examed in the history of Asian immigration in the US. But still an interesting read, thanks.

"The educational credentials of these recent [Asian] arrivals are striking," the report said. Sixty-one percent of 25-to-64-year-old Asian immigrants come with at least a bachelor's degree—more than double non-Asian immigrants, making the recent Asian arrivals "the most highly educated cohort of immigrants in U.S. history."

    I found another one! :fp:

The study also found that Asian-Americans are "more satisfied than the general public with their lives, finances and the direction of the country, and they place a greater value on marriage, parenthood, hard work and career success."

Seems like they're just stating a demographic factoid.

Agree with Go Beavers, but it is a fine line. If, for example, someone posted a stat about african-americans and incarceration rates, there might be a bit of a fallout in the AMT, just because people would wonder what the underlying point of the post was.

Oh I hear ya, Godfather. I don't think this article is trying to play up any stereotypes at all. I was just drawing a comparison.

As for the video I linked, yeah it does drag on a bit but manages to score a few yucks. My wife is asian-american, so I was pointed to that video at some point by one of her friends.

That article didn't read like they were including illegal aliens in their count.

who are the "they" you are talking about ? nobody comes to our country to do jobs Americans wont do.. they sneak in and work for a lesser wage so now Americans can't afford to work those jobs and support them selfs and or their familys...bottom line ...right ?

my op was not about that but your post does bring up something that has been a common misconception (doing jobs Americans wont do)

many of them live in canyons and camps or live in mexico where $6 to $8 dollars an hour is a huge wage or there will be several illegal workers living in one house but answer your question for the most part yes.

I'm always at least a little interested in discussions about who will and who won't do agricultural work. So much of it is done by machine now and yet still, it requires a lot of manual labor and that mostly by Hispanics. Years ago, I worked on the small farm my brother manages and we all got paid low wages and I have to say most of the hard work was done by Mexican employees or kids taking summer work. Just an observation from my experience. But in a post-oil world we'll see a lot more of everybody working in agriculture and fewer machines. We'll have no choice but to rely mostly on local agriculture and we'll see people of all nationalities in the fields. If I were thirty or forty years younger I'd learn much more about how to handle horses or repair tools or make things by hand.

then do you have a problem with all the american companies who have shipped their manufacturing plants overseas for cheaper labour costs? if so, then what clothing do you wear? what car do you drive? do you eat only local food?

    out-sourcing, yes ..big problem
and all those other things you mentioned can be corrected by stopping out-sourcing and stop flooding our markets with imports. the spin-off of my OP is wide and deep subject but 2 wrongs do not make a right.

the only way that out sourcing can be stopped is by the consumer. putting the onus on some other entity is a cop out.

agreed, but I don't see the connection between out-sourcing and illegal imigrants.
