Classic Action Movies

I've been on a kick of watching some classic action movies, a few I've never seen, I just watched Robocop, Total Recall and Road Warrior for the first time. Loved all 3 of them, next on my list is The Warriors.

Just curious if anyone has some favs they might recommend?
Some of mine are Point Break, Predator, to name a few.

The Warriors is great, but make sure you don't get the "Director's Edition" or whatever the latest release is called. It's TERRIBLE, the director jacked up the film in ways that George Lucas didn't even know was possible.

    Some of my favorites

    Die Hard (All Of Them)
    Escape From New York
The Thing - 1982 (Not really a heavy action movie, more Sci-Fi/Horror, but if you liked Predator...)
    Demolition Man
    The Last Action Hero

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

    Die Hard 1,2, and 3
    The Running Man
    Cobra
    Commando
    Delta Force
    Lethal Weapon 1
    Road House
    Tango and Cash
    Terminator 1 and 2
    Beverly Hills Cop
    48 Hours
    Silverado
    Big Trouble in Little China

    That should get you started.

By the way, you just saw these movies for the first time? Were you serving time, by chance?

Those two are definite Must-See movies as well. I had already put down Escape From New York and The Thing though, and I didn't want my list to look like I had a boner for Kurt Russell. But I do have a boner for Kurt Russell.

The lists previously have been pretty comprehensive, so I won't add much to them. I will however throw out something that a group of us do from time to time that might help your viewing of these classic action movies. A while back we started BAM Night (BAM=Bad Action Movie). Essentially, you get together and select two or three of the best BAM movies out there and watch them while sucking down your beverage of choice...It makes for spectacular commentary as you watch these with your friends! Invasion USA, Commando and Over The Top were the most recent selections...

    True Romance[/quote]

This is my favorite. Great story and full of great actors. Quentin Tarantino scripted this wild and wooly blend of action and dark comedy, which reached theaters a year before his breakthrough hit Pulp Fiction....

I think you mean Predator (which has been mentioned a few times) and not Predators. Predators was the 2010 movie with Adrien Brody. I thought it was pretty good though. The premise was very interesting, and Adrien Brody was a badass (something I never thought I'd say) and it was a pretty decent rental. MUCH better than Predator 2.

Yes, I did mean Predator. Thank you for the correction. I skipped over Predator 2

Skipping Predator 2 is definitely the way to go. It's very lame. I don't even remember much about it, other than there's some Jamaican drug war going down, and for some reason a Predator is involved in it. I don't know, maybe he came to Earth to score some bud.

Check out Predators though, it's pretty cool. The Predators drop all these people (an American mercenary, and Israeli sniper, a death row inmate, drug cartel member, etc) on a planet that the Predators use as some sort of hunting preserve, and they basically do battle with the Predators.

As my friend has said numerous times, there is a "gnarly sex scene" in that movie.

  • If you are looking for bad...

    Sudden death
Fair game - some Baldwin & Cindy Crawford
    Time lapse - Roy Schider

If you are looking for good
    Boondock Saints
    Death wish - Charles Bronson

    Or funny bad action
Money talks - Chris Tucker & Charlie Sheen. Winning

Here are a few great movies that John Woo made in Hong Kong before he came to Hollywood:

    Hard Boiled
    The Killer
    Bullet In The Head
