    while i in no way support the actions of the kkk, i find it interesting how we celebrate George Washington and Christopher Columbus. Washington who himself owned slaves, and Columbus, who while "discovered america" (bullshit) killed, and enslaved natives of this land. Yet we celebrate both of them seperatley, with days off and have fucking parades for these assholes.

    Yet the kkk who are trying to adopt a fucking highway to keep it clean are being bashed.... it's mind boggling. you all act as if they wanted a KKK history month to celebrate their past...

    columbus and george washington and thomas jefferson have been bashed hard on this forum over the years. don't blame the posters here for the ignorant hero worship that our government displays with president's day and columbus day. most of us have a little more sense than you give us credit for....i don't respoect those holidays, just a i do not respect flag day, because that flag represents not just the things that we should be proud of about this country, but it also represents our outright ugly history as well...

    Let me preface this by saying in no way do I advocate any sort of hate group or racially-charged organization. I believe in treating people equally as human beings, regardless of what they might look like/who they want to marry/who they pray to. With that said, I believe the KKK should be able to adopt a highway...and here's why:

    Every single organization has their intolerance and their "rogue" members. Every organization has their history of violence in some shape or form. Yes historically, the KKK had their time in history where they projected hate and violence. However, the modern day KKK is just another organization promoting their pride for their race. There are some members that still promote hate, you'll never get rid of them completely. Just like you'll never get rid of leaders of our own country that believe firmly in using violence to obtain what you want/get your point across.

    They should absolutely have the same right to promote their pride group as say a gay pride organization would...or an African American organization would. Why is it that someone like Malcom X, who promoted racial violence and hate against whites, is praised and has things named after him? But an organization like the KKK can't promote their group because of their history of hate and violence? It makes no sense to me. I'm sure if the KKK wrote a $30 million check to cancer research, it wouldn't be denied.

    Maybe I'm the one being ignorant here, but I dunno...it just aggravates me that we're a country filled with double standards.

    I saw this the other day in the news and wasnt sure what to think. At first, I thought an organization shouldnt be excluded from this type of thing, but then I wondered what was their motivation. Do they legitimately want to contribute to their community? Do they need some press? recruiting tool? starting controversy? They must know this would be controversial. And, and group, who for decades, has and STILL, in 2012, does stand for discrimination and hate? no thanks.

    Mindboggling? What i find mind boggling is that you took a person who existed over 200 years ago, who participated in actions that would be condemed today and compared him to a hateful organization that STILL, in 2012, preaches hate and discrimination. Comparing people celebrating Washington's accomplishments to the freedoms of the KKK?...amazing. I've heard it all.

    We also have numerous towns and cities named after each other. Washington D.C. even doubles-down. There is also a state and even a country named after them, respectively.

    I don't know what to tell you. It is what it is. Consider yourself lucky if you actually get the day off on either holiday. The majority of us don't.

    It's not a double standard, it's a different standard. Would you be making the same post if the local pedophile club wanted to adopt the road? The Klan can get together and pick up trash all they want. It's not an infringement on their freedom of speech if the community doesn't want their name on a sign.

    This particular road can't be adopted because the posted speed limit is over 55 mph.

    Perhaps something the KKK knew as it is in the guidelines to adopt.
    Perhaps their motive was attention and controversy.

    The far majority of the South cringes at the word and in no way wants a sign recognizing
    this hate promoting group. It's bad for moral, dignity and peace in our states.

    Stop the Hate.

    Based on what I have read, many Americans who don't want to wait a long time to adopt locally often go overseas and adopt foreign roads....much quicker process!
