A No Code favorite of mine...it totally rocks. Here's a clip of the band performing it live on David Letterman's '96 show. He comments on how the band's appearing "sponsor-free". Love it!

(Only thing I hated was how they cut off "Leaving Here", which closed out the show. Ah, well....)

Hail, Hail
Is there room enough for both of us?
Both of us apart?
Are we bound out of obligation?
Is that all we've got?
Get the words, and then I get to thinkin'
I don't wanna think, I wanna feel
How do I feel?
How do I?...

If you're the only one, will I never be enough?
Hail, hail the lucky ones, I refer to those in love

Swore I'd love you till the day I die, ah and beyond...
Are we going to the same place? If so, can I come?
It's egg rolling thick and heavy
All the past you carry
Oh, I could be new... you underestimate me

If you're the only one, will I never be enough?
Hail, hail the lucky ones, I refer to those in love

Sometimes realize, I could only be as good as you'll let me
Are you woman enough to be my man?
Bandaged hand in hand

I find it on the run in a race that can't be won
All hail the lucky ones, I refer to those in love, yeah
If you're my only one, so could you only one?
I want to be your one, enough...
Your one...your one...your one...
"Wind in my hair, I feel part of everywhere..."

I love Hail Hail too. my favorite part of that video clip is Stone's marching in place. For some reason, I've never noticed it quite as much as I do on this performance. One more reason to love the guy.
It's nice to be nice to the nice.

Yeah, the Letterman version is great! I recorded it on VHS the night it was shown. Jack is awesome on this one!
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”

On the Letterman show and on other live versions, I hear Eddie change the words which i really like.

The last part of the final chorus I believe he says...

"If you're my only one, I want to be your one
I want to be your one, enough...
    You win...enough...you won
    Posimists. Fuck the pessimists...fuck'em.

I worked out some fairly simple chords for Hail Hail. I have no idea (or inclination to want to know) how to put tablature on the computer so I'll try to explain:

The intro part is open (not barre) D, F major*, open C, slide up open C up two frets (D)**, open G, A minor***, slide down one fret to open A

During verses I just move back and forth from open G to the open A minor

    * like this...
    f-major-chord01.gif
...only with the high E string open (I'm pretty sure Neil Young uses an F chord like this sometimes).

** make this D by sliding the open C up two frets

*** Am is played like an open A only up one fret or and Open G slid up 3 frets but just play the E and A strings

OK, maybe I should learn how to post tablature. :|

  • One of my top favourite rockers and album tracks. One of the most played PJ songs for me. Must've heard it 1000 times now and will play it 10,000 more.

One of my favorite Letterman appearances. Such a great version of this song. Jack Irons.
I've always thought that stone had a RATM phase he must have been going through because of how high he held the guitar and the way he was walking in place like that.
