I got an email at work today about a GPS that was left inside a car and the battery exploded when it overheated. Thought if anyone on here could learn from this, it might be worth posting. Please be safe. The email I got with the pictures said the brand of the GPS is not known.

There are pictures of the damage to the car, which is pretty bad. If anyone knows how to post pictures in a post, please let me know how. I'll post as soon as I can.

seems like there might have been a short or something in that unit resulting in a fire?

Are we sure the owner didn't owe money to the bookies?

Then this would be true of all smartphones, laptops, ipads, etc too... I would never leave my Android baking in a hot car... it just kind of seems like common sense to me that devices like that shouldn't be left in broiling heat, what with all the stories about laptop batteries causing fires simply from too much gaming.

Interesting because the car already looks like it has factory nav. Could just be the screen for audio controls though and not have the actual GPS unit.
