Stupid Band Name, but Awesome Music

I know Pearl Jam has been pretty self-deprecating about its name (I think it's brilliant, IMO)... Same with Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters, he's been a little critical of it (which, yeah I'd agree there, it is kind of a bad band name, and had I not known Grohl was tied to that name, I prolly would have put off listening to them for a while...).

That being said I just got turned onto Biffy Clyro this weekend. Quite possibly the worst damn band name I've EVER heard!!

I'd read about them a bunch on NME but I couldn't bother listening to them because I just couldn't get past the fucking name!!

Been listening to them constantly for the last 24 hours. They're outstanding!

So... Yeah, I need to broaden my horizons and not get so hung up on crappy band names...

This ever happen to anyone here?

    You've named some great bands in there (especially I Am Kloot).

    My favourite would probably be Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, a Welsh band that were pretty good in the 90s. According to the band "we might as well stick with the most ridiculous crap name we could think of."

    I wouldn't say their music was 'awesome' but !!! had a few great songs and an awful name too.

    I'd agree, for sure. I just had a hard time getting past this one. Now I'm on the verge of tattooing "Mon tha Biff" on my forearm. They're outstanding!

    I think taken on their own most band name are stupid, but it always kinda amazes me that once I start appreciating a given bands music more their name becomes more and more fitting.
